not bad, I like that Idea. We'll probably rework all this stuff during the winter months.

last nights pull, didn't do too well. The clutch also is starting to hate life. the rear is gonna need replaced too. Part of one of the spider gears exited out the diff cover the other day. opened it up pulled the rest of the gear out. welded some more stuck it back together.

Ok, pulled my last pull of the season last night, was in the top 5 in a mixed 2wd diesel 4x4 gas class. My clutch wouldn't allow me to leave the line in 2nd, so I had to pull in 1st. I believe it was 280ft, hit 12-14mph on the track. I actually think 14 is as fast as I can go in 1st. so I definitely needed 2nd. I'm gonna start to slowly buy up some stuff and tear it down and build it back up. thinking about buying another truck to use as a daily driver/ tow rig.

Congrats you have made a lot of progress this year.

Thanks, hope to do even better next year. Good luck on your truck.

Ok I'm gonna start buying up some stuff here and there over the winter for next season. Got some questions, as for the wheels and tires, I know most people say stick with the 16" rims and tires, but I really like the look of the 19.5's better. I'm gonna post some pics of retreads from Treadwright, I'll look around more as well. 2nd question, for a clutch what should I look for? I'm thinking dual disk, and Have been suggested to get one from Kentucky Clutch. I know what rears to look for thanks to y'all. one piece Driveshaft, now for Power I'm wanting to play with the VE some more, thinking 14mm head and 5x20 injectors. 7.3 powerstroke IC, S364-s366? Thoughts? oh and A airdogII 165 GPH.

On tires.. The reason most stay with a 16 is the wide aray of tread patterns out there.. I would suggest running more of an AT tire than an MT, and size accordingly to what gear ratio your planning to run.

Clutch: I would 2nd going with a 4000# plate load DD from ky cutch.. Ran one for 3 years and never had the first bit of trouble.

Rear end of choice and a one piece driveshaft is a must.. (Just one more weak link to break later)

Power: If ya want to stay with the VE there are a few guys here that have made some very respectable HP from them and offer some good info. And i think you have your ideas on a charger and fuel supply going in a good direction. Size really depends on where and what class you plan to build for.

Awesome progress.. Good luck on the build :Cheer:

^^^^ You need that guy on speed dial if your pulling a 2wd!

I'm man enough to admit he beat my 4WD a few times!

Its also a HELLUVA RIDE when the sled operator let's you "Run with it" @ 30" hitch height! track..sky..track..sky..track..sky...POLE!!!!! LOL :rockwoot:

blacksm0king 10-16-2012 08:15 PM

Thanks for the Advice, I think I'll just buy another rig to use as a road truck, and dedicate this one to the Track.

blacksm0king 10-16-2012 08:16 PM

also Lynn can I have your number so I can call you 3-4 times a day with questions. JK lol
Oh and at the last pull I was less than 1/2" from money. lol the guy that got 3rd was a 600+hp 2nd gen.

Fireman450 10-16-2012 11:03 PM

Not bad.. Good job!!

2wpuller 10-17-2012 08:57 AM

I don't remember do you have a getrag or a 4500.if a getrag I would be thinking of a up grade to a4500 with a big input shaft

blacksm0king 10-17-2012 07:02 PM

I have the ol g-rag right now, I may have a nv4500. my cousin is wanting to swap a zf5 into his 2nd gen 2wd, and make it 4x4 we already have a pair of dana 60 and 80 axles he's gonna throw on. so if he does that I may get his nv. I also had a guy offer me a 2wd zf5, but he wouldn't price it because he didn't know what it's worth.

blacksm0king 10-17-2012 07:30 PM

Y'all think retreads would hold up? I like these.

Check with the rules of who you are going to pull with.I have heard there have been some have said no retreads.I personally don't care.I like the ones you have picked out.

Dale

blacksm0king 10-17-2012 07:58 PM

I'll check, hopefully they're allowed, be much cheaper.
