Firepunk UCC Pro Street Build

Since we could not return to Diesel Power Challenge after two consecutive wins, we accepted the entry into the Ultimate Callout Challenge in the beginning of November with the intent of competing with the quad cab since the original UCC competition was going to be Dyno, 1/4mile Drag Race, 1/8th Mile Trailer Drags and Sled pulling. After the Trailer drag race was dropped from the challenge, we decided we needed a lightweight platform for the event to increase our chances of placing top 5 in each event. This is thread is backdated to November when we purchased a virgin 06 Reg Cab out of Oklahoma with the intent of dropping the power plant out of the quad cab in it, making minor suspension changes and saving 1500lbs. After getting it on the scales as a completely stock truck, it still weighed 6900lbs, then one thing led to another and the first week of December we cut the back half of the frame off and started a complete back half chassis build. Here is a Picture heavy version of the build.

Before we gutted the truck...

The back half of the frame weighs 280lbs for anyone wondering.

I'll keep adding pics as they upload to photobucket.

In on this!

All this time I though it was built off woosleys roller. Congrats on the instant success, that's very cool to roll off the trailer and run 133mph in the 1/8.

Truck was super impressive this weekend, Lavon. Well done...... I imagine several folks out west are going back to the drawing board.

jlbayes 04-11-2016 11:35 AM

was very impressed to see this truck come right out and start swinging.

I've been waiting for this. Great job at the race this weekend. Subscribed.

Did the truck ever go full power this weekend or just 1400hp or so? Is it still the engine from the quad cab or a new engine? I saw you said "rowdy" triples, do we get details?

LAmiller 04-11-2016 11:44 AM

We decided to keep the AAM axles under it to support the sled pull portion of the event. Here is the start of the ladder bar setup.

We ordered a fiberglass front clip, bumper, doors and bedsides from GTS fiberglass and cut out every double wall section of the steel cab we could get a plasma on, the rear panel we replaced with a thin sheet of aluminum, which saved us 8lbs.

The 5.60@133 pass was on a tune that did 1363HP on our chassis dyno. We tried a 1616HP tune against Chase Lundsford, and it overfueled on the line and the shift points were about 1000rpm too high with the added power which caused the truck to lay down between shifts and no load= no horsepower, so we know now we'll need to leave with a little more boost and lower our shift points as we increase power.

I can't wait to see this truck in person tomorrow. :woohoo:

How long did it take for you to recover from laughing at those ungodly frogwheels and tires when the truck arrived at the shop? :hehe:

You Firepunk guys sure have your **** together. Good luck at UCC!

In on this one as well. You guys are a true inspiration to everyone in the diesel community.

My brother Lyn did a lot of homework on 8.50 Chassis cert rules and was the brains behind the chassis setup. We also picked the brains of some knowledgeable individuals at the PRI show and had some of the local COTPC sled pullers evaluate our chassis so we know how to set it up for a bolt in sled pulling hitch setup.

As mentioned before, we really tried to cut every possible pound out of the truck that didn't involve a structural sacrifice.

Power washed the complete frame, being a Texas native, it was a clean platform to build.

Cutting the OEM Spring mounts off in prep for the Afco Coilovers we put on all four corners.

We cut out the rear cab crossmember, and fabricated a new crossmember/driveshaft loop, also cut out all the extra weight possible out of the cab mounts that stayed on the frame.

It's only 4.8lbs, but that's 4.8lbs that I don't have to lose on my diet, saves me about 2 weeks worth of morning jogging :)
