Caltracs on a dd
I was planning on running caltracs on my '01, but a guy I work with that drag races a lot told me you can't run them on the street because they'll break. He said he uses comp engineering slide-a-links because they have a bushing in them and a jam nut you can back off and not mess with suspension travel but they don't make a set for my truck and I don't feel like tryin to customize a set if I don't need to. So my question is since I know a good many people on here have experience with caltracs, is what would be your opinion on them for a primarily daily driven truck. I don't tow anything with this truck and I do a little street racing here and there and hit the track a good bit on the weekend

I know a few people on the forums using caltracs for daily driving, sled pulling and drag racing with no issues.

I have ran them on my street car for over 10 years with no issues. It is a 3000lb car and not a truck though. I even bottomed it out going over a crest in a driveway and didn't bend the bar. Seen any traction bars that mount on the frame further forward break? The only difference I see is the forward mounting point of the two. What exactly was your coworker saying would break?

I've seen a lot of people run them on street trucks for a long time. I can't speak to ride quality or performance, but I know I never have heard of them breaking from DDing.
|
That's what I was thinking. I've never heard of them breaking but he bracket races a split bumper camaro so I wasn't sure if there was difference or not. Just wanted to double check with people with experinence on a full weight truck before I ordered a set. I've got to get some new shocks and lower the truck down some first. Right now anything over 10psi in 4wd just blows the tires off

I had to air down my tires until they hooked. At normal tire pressures they would just spin. Anything over 20 psi would spin but I noticed between 12-18 psi was where I got my best 60ft times from... I had a similar setup to you, 66mm turbo with mach 7s |
A buddy of mine has had them on his super duty for 3 or 4 years, he just backs them off a bit for dd.

I have them on my truck, dd, 5yrs now, no problems.

I guess I'll put them on the order list then. And no I haven't had a chance to air them down yet, I know that's my main problem right now. I was planning on dropping pressure down to about 15-20ish psi and hit the track tomorrow night because they're having a diesel bracket race Saturday, but my fiancé's grandpa had a heart attack yesterday and probably isn't goin to make it through the night so I might have to put it on hold for a little bit.

I run them on my 2011 dding and towing and have had no bad experiences in the last 30,000 miles.
|
I've had mine for around 7 years on the street. I don't put many miles per year though. They will rattle some, but they are built well.
|
I also run them on my 06 dodge Diesel. Ive had them on for over 6 years with no problems
|
That's what I like to hear. I aired my 420s's down to 25psi tonight and left on 13-14psi and it hooked decent my first pass but the stupid kids runnin the water box sprayed water across the whole track so I couldn't drive around it. Last week with the tires at 40psi spinning my 60ft times were consistent around 2.00-2.02 and my best et was 8.24 at 87mph. Tonight my best pass had a 60ft of 1.91 and my et was 8.00 at 88. I know if it'll hook it's got high 7's in it

Have had them on my truck for 10 years , have replaced the joints twice in all that time. Never broke, just rattled a lot. No regrets, benefits far outweigh the noise.

You can put a piece of radiator hose on the bolt that goes over the leaf to get rid of most of the rattle.

Do they effect the ride at all?
