Yes I think so as it can run flat and boring as you want. If you give a more idle fuel than needed the ECU kick it out of idle mode all the time giving it an on/off effect.

If you want we can play music as well with the ECU. LOL.

Strandrace IJmuiden Vick Verstijnen Racing. shake down of the rebuild Rally truck.

New engine fist run this year, Assen indoor truckpulling and get a 3e place as a end result.

Morocco Desert Challenge.

Have been with the Dakar Speed & Vick Versteijnen Truck Racing to give technical support to these team if it comes to the Scania XPI engines.
Engines did great able to drive to second place on the stage first stages but soon the two trucks dropped back to problems with the suspension. The amount of stones on the track gave many rally teams loads of problems having to weld and reconstruct many marks of trucks and cars.

Damaged one turbo due to a wastegate vent line being bent in a way that the exhaust gas coming from the wastegate could not escape. No chance in boost pressure only getting a 0,5Bar drive pressure increase from mid RPM onwards.

Bit of Scania fun during AME Raamsdonksveer. New look for the pulling truck as we get sponsorship from Scania. Bit odd as we panted the engine CAT Yellow just for fun. LOL

tall boy 05-08-2019 12:55 AM

This is what 2Bar boost pressure anti lag looks like on a Scania V8 engine.

Bit smaller engine different cams bit more effort with the clutch to spool the turbos so why not set launch modes from 1 bar to 2 bar boost pressure and make sled pulling a easy job.

Leende truck pulling event. Fist time I have seen the new 17L in action. Strong engine with loads of power and also a answer to why the 18.4L did not work that well.
The 17L is build as a stroker as the 18.4 had a bigger bore so we need to start looking to build the 18.4L as a engine with stronger internals.

Also good to know is that we had to lose 500Kg weight this year as for the pulling sleds not able to handle the power of our trucks any more if we went running like we did. Weight means able to find more traction and so on. Very happy with the balce of the truck we find this year placing the inter coolers on the back of the truck.

New build Volvo D16K Commonrail 50% more pump and fuel capacity over standard.

Volvo D16K also used by Mack (can not recall engine type) is rated as 750Hp/3500Nm in Europe as standard.
Yesterday we had the first runs on the pulling track with a bit of bad luck. First run a plastic fuel return line melted due to a pressure regulator valve opening a small bit with over 2000Bar of fuel pressure and that’s getting hot very easy so changed the software a bit but as you want a good result unable to make other changes to get more power. Also o2 sensor did decide not to give a correct reading so we got some lose end on the data logging thing but happy with the result already clearing out smoke on the runs.
This fuel system can go up to 3000Bar max and its key to get as close to this number as possible to get fuel in as hard and fast as possible so we still need to dial in the pump units I bit more but things are looking good. Ones we get that done the limiting factor will be compression ratio on this engine as this is still standard and chance is we can not advance injection as for getting combustion to soon before top dead centre.

This Volvo engine run in Hobby Sport class so 2500Rpm max and 74mm inlet retractions so only from 1700Rpm downwards you start making decent boots pressure but low end toque on these engines is insane.

Our Scania SuperSport puller still going strong holding 3e overall now. to bad we had the last pull on the soft track so happy getting 4e place yesterday.

Yesterdays pulling event in Nieuw Vennep. A track that will absorb all your engine power if you cannot find traction and balance.

First pull look very promising having great speed and not moving a lot of soil in front of the pulling sled. Conversation as ever run on traction or wheel sleep. Load of pulling sleds are unable to slow is down if they let us gain speed so they will pull heavy from the start so @ the start traction is key and it did work out for us ending up with 1e place able to move over the bad spots on the track pulling 6 meters more than the rest of the pack so yes very happy now holding 2e place in the championship.

Still going strong having second place last night and holding second place in the championship. Very happy with the 17L V8 Scania engine.

All in a days work testing a Mercedes OM639 or MTU 6R1000 that also happens to be family of the DD series Detroit as well. Relay like these engines and maybe we can build a DD13 one day with a old style single coil injector to get rid of the hydraulic amplifier inside the newer model injectors.

TDIfreak 06-11-2019 03:08 PM

OM639 is 1.5 liter Smart engine... but I also like 12.8 liter OM471 they use in Agricultural machines.

What's so bad about that amplifier?

Yes sorry about that and we done this OM639 engine as well. It’s a OM636 LOL.

tall boy 06-15-2019 06:48 AM

Made power weekend. Unable to find traction this time so end up with 6e place.

That's from 1949... must be OM936 then.

AsTroSS 06-20-2019 10:25 AM

MTU 6R1000 is 7.7 liter engine

Weekend truck racing. fast track with lots of 100Mph 8e gear only pulling loads of Nm on A division MAN D26 we build.

tall boy 07-06-2019 03:08 PM

MVJ 2 pull 1 Rijsbergen. To bad rail killed the rest of game.

Andy sure is a different breed of cat! A brilliant mind. I've seen some of his work on some "interesting" fast stuff.

Total Agri Beachpull we run a test pull with some changes to the driveline. Happy with the data so maybe next pull time we go for a software update. This is the best running engine so far and I hope we can gain some more on top end power as this engine makes very good low en torque but the thing is with electronic activated pump injectors there is no way of knowing other than make the changes and test it and must say new type of injector used for some time has only been running on engines so no testing done on test equipment en as we know from the older injector type the date you get from this dos not line up as what you get running it for real in a engine so yes trail and error will do the job well.
