Looking for good 6x9 door speaker

This is on my wifes 06 3500. I got a set of kicker for her truck over Christmas. She doesnt like the sound of the speaker. She likes more bass while listening to music. Me on the other hand am more treble. Truck has the stock head unit. Not looking to change everything. Had a cracked door speaker so I figured I would replace them all seeings the trucks an 06. Just needing a 6x9 that will thump a little with no amp. Is there a such thing

I hear JL audio has some decent speakers.
When I was researching what to use to replace the junk stock speakers in my SRT, JL came up a lot. Never did get them swapped out to have personal experience tho, I traded in the challenger for an LML duramax lol

I am going to pull the kickers that I put in the wifes truck and putting them in mine. I like the clarity of them. She just wants a little more thump without going with an amp.

I was reading reviews that made it sound like polk had gone downhill or the market was saturated with knock-offs.

I've got Polk components in the Cruze. JL amps and a 12W7. All were purchased and installed by an authorized dealer though. I've been really happy with it over the last 7 years. Think I've got $3300 in the whole setup installed, with a custom sealed box that would allow for my giant suitcase to sit next to the sub in the trunk. There are crossovers and some other shit installed under the rear seat but I forget what they are. I also took it to the best audio shop in Atlanta, so I'm sure a premium was put on top since they mainly do really high end exotic cars, but I wanted it done right.

It's concert loud, if not louder, but also crystal clear (minus the rattles from the car) if you want to listen to the blues or jazz.

Well looks like I'm going to be switching all the kicker speakers over to my truck. So I'm also in the market for a pair of 6.5 speakers to stick in the back doors.

The wife likes to feel the beat. I'm more of I want the lyrics to be crisp and clear. I'm in no way of looking at sticking that much money into a system. Wouldn't be shopping but on of her front door speakers was crackling. Went to a local stereo shop and they pointed me in the direction of kicker. The bundle pack I got is the CSS69 6x9 with the CSC65 for the 6.5. The 6x9 came with a tweeter and a crossover. I didnt plug the tweeter in cause I didnt want to drill in the door panel to mount tweeter.

Not sure what you're looking to spend, but I think there are several options for a powered (amp included) under front center seat or rear seat options available for a subwoofer. Without knowing what kind of music she likes, a 10" would probably be an all around good option without consuming a bunch of space like a true sub box would.

That would definitely give you the punch, and then use your doors for mids/highs. Add a remote bass controller and then you can control the bass from the drivers seat. There are tons of options out there, just depends what you want to spend. Also ditching the factory amp in favor of say a JL XD400/4v2 amp if you don't want to add a sub will make a world of difference, but again, it all comes down to cost and preference.

She just wants it back to stock sounding. When I threw the kickers in there it lost the bass. May have to hit pick and pull and find some stock speakers again. I hate messing with stereo stuff

I replaced all the speakers in the wife’s F250 with American Bass brand speakers. They definitely live up to their name. I’ve run their subwoofers in my own vehicles. Good stuff for the money. Check your depth clearances; the magnets are fairly monstrous.

What size did you go with?

Purn1973 04-05-2021 06:02 AM

Kenwood head unit, Pyle door speakers, two 10" Infinity pro subs under the rear seats with two Rockford Fosgate amps, (400w to the doors and 600w to the subs) pushing everything. Had it all professionally installed a few years back in my '07 quad cab and let me tell, it'll freaking rock and roll! :rockwoot:

I believe her '94 F250 was 6.5" round in the front doors and 5"X7" in the back. I have a pair of American Bass 6X9's in the back of my mustang. They all hit pretty good and the tweeters are real crisp. I had to do some clearancing in her doors and they didn't come close to fitting in the mustang's doors.

Why not just go back with OEM speakers if that what she likes?

In my dealings with aftermarket 6x9 speakers and factory head unit, your experience is same as mine. Once you upgrade the head unit and have more adjustment over the equalizer or upgrade to an amp will the bass come to life better than before in those 6x9's.
Component speakers may also yield the best solution for this situation. 6.5" sub in the door and tweeter in the dash area. All newer vehicles with the "premium" audio system have this setup.

All great info. If I could find new stock 2 ohm infinity 6x9 I would go that route. Seen on crutchfield they have a power bass oe style speaker that can work from 2 to 8 ohm. Looking real hard at it
