Not a racing application but rather a "need to keep cool with more hp than stock" application. I'm running wyoming/Montana a lot and want to be able to go up and down them thar hills at 65 without things warming up too much. I have all the Detroit software and wow the stuff you can do with PWM is amazing. I could control several w/m systems with my factory ecm.

Anyone have any advice for this? I'm also thinking for setting up sprayers for the rad. Just straight water.

The pikes peak 2400 truck has a ton of w/m on it from Banks. They stuffed nozzles everywhere they could. Claim a 400 hp increase and cooler running engine with it. Not bad!

I would properly tune the truck and run the proper turbo and be done with it. Don't expect a 400hp increase on a 400hp truck.

No of course not! But a small hp increase while still having the smaller turbo that spools quick would be nice. I had a 75mm inducer turbo on here with the same exhaust side (96/88/1.32) as this 71mm and found it to be too lazy for my liking.

You have a mismatched setup somewhere. We have piles of customers running both of those turbos without issue.

A sub 500hp truck that needs water meth has issues elsewhere.

Also, spraying water meth at the level you'd need to cool 13l is going to get expensive quick.

Bingo! When there are no shortage of 800+ hp trucks working daily with no water injection. Def something is off and I would guess tuning.

No mismatch. It's a 500 bk60 12.7. Leon smith tuned it. The 71mm matches well to where the engine is most efficient. I have the software and with this setup I've matched timing and fuel very well. No dyno numbers but I know it will out pull a 550 cat. It makes around 38 psi on a long pull.

I just want a wee bit more power without raising cruise rpm or going with a larger turbo.

There's only a couple hills in wyoming and Montana that I want more power. will have a switch that turns off the system and turns back the fuel and alters timing. In fact I'm already doing the latter.

Love when people ask for advice and instantly go to the "nothing is wrong" response. Obviously your combination is not perfect or you wouldnt need water meth.

A 171701 at 500+hp is one glaring problem.

I love that analogy... "I know it will out pull a 550 cat"
Lol

It is written in crayon on the dash of every freightliner.

I've heard it enough that I pretty well believe you.
I do my level best to keep myself out of as many freightliners as possible.

An 01 at that power level isn't an issue as long as you're within the efficiency area of the compressor map. If you're dumping a ton of fuel at 1800 like you would an 02 yes you're gonna have problems. Mine tapers off fuel pretty hard at 1800 and I'm fine with that because the engine isn't efficient there anyways

It's entirely possible my expectations are the problem. The truck does have plenty of power.

Here's a S60 that didn't have a problem either. Well it didn't until the rod came out and busted the ecm in half and made the tune leak out.

Is it common for someone to put a smaller than stock turbo on and call it performance?

If you are serious you are severely over complicating a run of the mill 60s.

Gotta have those spools!

"Yes I currently get 10mpg uphill hauling the statue of liberty but I want better mpgs and more power. It has to spool better than stock. I have $263 to spend. Its a detroit."

And it must walk all over every cat. All of them.

How is an 01 smaller than stock?
