I may have jumped the gun painting this stuff...

I'm kinda stuck as far as buying parts until we get our tax refund, but that shouldn't be too long.
The Pete is a project I started a few years ago, that got put on the back burner. The day I bought it, we found out my wife was pregnant with our first (and only) kid...my plans changed. I plan to get back on it once this Ford is on the road...I have a few ideas of what I could do with it.

Steering gear, and a truck load of axles. All from a 2010 F550.
I'm not sure how I'm going to like 4.88 gears, with the 1:1 final of the Allison. Even with 40" tires, it's going to be turning up about 2200 at 60mph. I have the gov set at 3100 no load, figuring 2800 top end on the road. I'm not so much concerned with top end speed, but cruising rpm is a bit high. I'm going to drive it before I make any changes.

I was thinking 3.90's was as low as you could go on F550 axles...but that has been a while since I looked...cousin had a 2008 F550 with 4.88's he wanted to regear.

Who makes 550 axles meritor or Dana?

Google say S110/S130 there's got to be more options than 4.3/4.88

Thanks!
3.73's are my plan, once everything else is done. That is the fastest ratio I can find. Should be a good balance of low end power, and still an acceptable cruising rpm.

You loose abs tone ring with ratios faster than 4.3? That Ford offered. I called Dana direct, and got the part numbers for all the ring and pinion sets. Dana/spicer also has a huge library of free literature on their website. You just have to spend the time searching to find what you need. I downloaded the parts and service manuals for both axles, and had them printed...along with every other manual I could find pertaining to anything on this project...Turned into a 5" thick binder?

No abs, so no problem for me.
I thought about adding abs, but I have a ton or research to do on that. I'll probably not do it.

With a 466 up front, I don't think you'll be lacking for torque...3.73's would be awesome especially with a big tire.

I would brace that front suspension mount...you will bend it backwards!

It's not finished, however...it would have to break 6 welds and rip two pieces of 1/4" steel clean thru before anything bent or came apart. It's made from 1/4" wall box tube, welded to 3/8" angle, braced on both sides with 1/4" plate that extends full length PAST the main weld joints. The bracing plates are both bolted AND welded...it would take a hell of a lot to bend those. That being said, I do intend to add another brace at 45*, attaching it to the frame, and probably a cross bar to tie both sides together. All the extra bracing would be in my way right now while I'm working on other things under the truck.
