Is a 700 hp 7.3 possible?

7.3s are good motors on the farm. They will eat whatever dirty watered down fuel you can find, but for power they are gutless,heavy, rattle boxes. For performance that has to be the worst. I spent a lot of money on 7.3s trying to make decent power. I saved money when I did a cummins swap. Every motor has their place but building a big power 7.3 takes big funds. Guys that have done it spent a lot of money and have some wild trucks but they aren't driving down the road with them

467 turbo
400/200 injectors
Second oil pump
Built transmission
That will put out mid 600's on fuel, spray to 800.

400/400 injectors
72mm+ turbo
Mid upper 700's to 800's on fuel, been sprayed over 1k
 
Zack pierces is around 1000hp on fuel only now I think. Not sure what all is done to it but I know it's a lot haha
 
Irate Diesel had a pretty hard running 7.3L up in Oregon...ran 12.80 on fuel and 12.20 on spray at 7980lb, stock bottom end, 240K, works out to low 600's on fuel and low 700's on spray. Made about a dozen passes too. Cool truck.
 
This 7.3 makes a fair amount of power

Fuel system and electronics. They can do it, it's just harder and more expensive. You can always change out the fuel system to mechanical like some of the sled pullers.

Thank you. The 2 7.3 my dad has owned over the years got 10mpg if they were lucky loaded and were the most gutless trucks I have ever driven...

I am sure they are decent with some mods but in stock form they are god awful IMO
 
Owning a 7.3 has made me even more of a cummins fan. On the other hand, a cummins would have killed my transmission by now.
 
It's 100% possible. The guy is likely full of **** but yea you can make 700RWHP out of a 7.3.... It's pretty easy, just takes alot of money.

I call out BS because he said a suncoast transmission. Pretty much all the high HP guys are running a BTS or john wood trans... I run a BTS.

IMO, to make 700RWHP the right way out of a 7.3.... You need $30,000 minimum. You can do it for alot less but how long will it last? Maybe 5 years, maybe 10 years, maybe 1 pull on the strip... Who knows. I'm trying to save up $40k for my build if that gives you any idea. 1 year and alot of overtime should get me there.

nothin wrong with the old 7.3 in its day it was a reliable powerplant still is. Probably the most reliable platform ever up until economy took a crap ran fleet of repo trucks ran every brand ford chevy and dodge nothing lasted as long as the 7.3 our dodges was biggest turd ever but we actually worked our trucks had 1 7.3 run 1.4 million miles never overhauled original turbo it got injectors every 250,000- 300,000 and oil leaks fixed several times but we had at least 6 go over 1 million miles none of our dodges or chevy lasted that long in fairness we only had lb7 duramaxes and never ran a 6.5 we knew better. anyone says only getting 10mpg somthing is wrong we ran 7.3 f superdutys and f450's all had 4.88 or 5.3 gears in dynamic wreckers we averaged 13-14mpg with each. for work tuck 7.3 set the standard for years. as a performance engine different story. The heui injection seriously limits power potential common rail will dominate power potential the old 7100 can deliver the fuel but will never be as precise as common rail. a 6.4 can make over 550 with just a tuner over 750 with few upgrades but its a miracle if it can last 200,000 miles stock

Boy, do I feel bad for you having to be in one of those rattling things for that many miles.
 
There's really nothing wrong with a 7.3.... Most of us had 7.3s when they were new in the mid 90s, or our fathers did so we grew up around them. They can make all the power you'll ever want, but like anything else it takes money.

And if anything, playing with 7.3s is a more unique experience because no one does it. It's nice having a kid in a H&S tuned, full deleted 6.4 or 6.7 powerstroke and just beating his ass in an old 7.3... It's funny, the looks you get from people. I find it hilarious.

I thought the diehard VP guys in the dodge world were a bit off until I read some of the money people have dropped on a 7.3 to have 700hp. Holy hell LOL
