Driveline vibration with Caltracks?

Getting a drive shaft ballanced is not expensive... But I'd look into new tires first seeing how that's what you changed last. As far as the cal tracks causing the vibration, that's just silly.

hopefully not another horror story for bfg, I don't believe I will ever own another bfg tires unless they are given to me or something seriously changes. my dad wanted another set of bfg ats because his last set(probably 8 years old) were great and lasted forever, well I warned him that I had been reading bad things about the qc of bfg as of late... they went through 9 tires to find a set of 4 that were "acceptable" at the dealer. I finally talked him into a set of toyo ats. as much as bfg rubber costs, there needs to be some changes, and I wouldn't doubt for a second that your tires could be the cause of your issue

I wasn't saying the Caltracks were causing the vibration, more like transferring it, Via the solid mount bushings. It's definitely driveline related. Truck is at the dealer now, I will let you know what they say tomorrow.

Road force balancing done, cost me $60. They said all tires & rims were ok. Vibration is maybe 60% less now, it's just when I'm steady on the throttle, seems to be worst around 40-50mph. Seems to have to do with when the TC is locked up in OD. I never had any of this before the tires/caltracks? I suppose the driveshaft could be out, but I don't understand how. Where would I go to have the driveshaft rebalanced?

Well 1st rule out the TC, and get to that speed and drop a gear and see if it's still there...

If it is see a shop with a balancing machine, what state are you in it's not on your profile?

Central Illinois, just west of Peoria.

Things are defiantly better after the RF balance, but before I had zero vibrations.

Tried dropping a gear @ 40, 50, and 60mph, still vibrates just @ a different frequency. Went on a little road trip, pulled a fairly long hill @ 60mph in 3rd @ around 2500 rpm, it still vibrated even with the rpm's up. Let it shift to OD and more of the same, just a different frequency.

So since the frequency of the vibe changes when the speed of the truck does not doesn't that point to the trans rather than the driveshaft? At the same mph the drive shaft isn't spinning any faster.

Got anyone you can swap tires wheels with? Rule that out since thats when it happened

Thought about that.
A guy I work with has an 05, but they are 35" not sure they will fit. I am stock in the front and lowered in the rear.
Not a lot of 3rd gens in my area.

Tire guy I deal with regularly has to send tires back because of problems like you are having. Was there awhile back had a ambulance come back in said its not right. Couldnt tell on the balancer. another new tire fixed it

That's why i wanted you to drop a gear, rather then make you waste time in the wrong area with something it's not

So you know its not tires and you need to start lookin at the trans and tc
.

Well do you have the tow/haul button? if you do do the same thing again and then play with that button and see what happens, then you can pin it to the tc

with the amount of wheel weights that are on those rear tires now sounds like you have two bad tires ...put the rears on the front and fronts on the rear. see if that vibration moves to the steering wheel... and also try this when you feel the vibration touch the brakes but keep the same speed of the vibration . that will check if the rotors are doing the vibration fed back , and maybe the new tires are bringing that out more

Had a friend go 4 a ride, he's a heavy truck mechanic.
He found the front U joint was bad. He will replace it this weekend.
Hopefully this will fix things.

If the vibration changes when you drop a gear at the same speed it is NOT the tires, NOT the shaft, It is something within the trans, now you need to get it to the front half of the trans or the rear half of the trans.

I had thought you were already doing these checks
