Stock brakes with no vacuum pump.

Need to figure out some temporary brakes for my drag truck. It is a 95 12v. I have deleted vacuum pump and was wondering what’s the best way to make the factory brakes work decent enough to race the last race before season stops. After this season going to full disc setup. I was thinking of going to an electric vacuum pump has anyone done this? Honestly haven’t ever done much with brakes so any help is appreciated!

They'll outperform the vacuum too.

Also, please don't go down the track with no sort of brake booster! ;-)

One last thing you could do, toss the vacuum brake booster on and put an electric vacuum pump to give it a charge. :Cheer:
 
I'd do some trial and error. Most vacuum brake boosters will allow for two full pumps of the brakes. Go pull the line from the vacuum pump and try. The line will have a check valve in it.

That’s what I was asking if anyone has ran an electric vacuum pump on one of these trucks and how well it worked
 
You could swap to a universal master cylinder that is non-boosted. It will have a larger piston and should work well. I'm in the process of 5 lug/rack and pinion conversion on my 94 drag truck. I am running a 98 ps pump so I will have power r+p and power brakes, but I was originally considering a non boosted remote master cylinder when I was planning a mechanical r+p.
 
Vince also ran mostly stock 2wd stear gearbox no power steering before the swap every time I've seen. Better have some pull to ya, slow driving.

It doesnt feel bad at all to steer. Braking is my only undecided issue. Planned to go full discs but really wanna run this race. I’ll probably look into a diff master cylinder

The steering on mine was totally fine without power assist when driving around/moving. Absolutely brutal to park or do a very tight low speed turn.

That’s odd. Mine even with a smaller diameter steering wheel I can turn sitting still fairly easy
