New Project Cummins Swaped Lambo

Hi
We are Italian Design and Racing based out of Mesa, Arizona and mainly do automotive racing but we were able to acquire a special project for a diesel conversion that will ultimately be our new shop truck. We specialize in custom fabrication but something over 3000 pounds is new to us and especially the diesel side of things.

About 2 years ago we bought a 1989 Lamborghini LM002 that had the original engine pulled out to put a Mercedes 5 cylinder in. When we got it we knew that wasn't the direction that we wanted to go so we made our measurements and landed on a common rail cummins. We are looking to take it to Sema either 2018 or 2019 depending on how funds and parts work out for this thing, but either way we are continuing forward on it. As it sits we have the engine mounted and a trans is on the way, so hopefully everything runs smoothly from here (which never happens!).

A few questions that we have come into so far is:
1. What harness modifications are needed?
2. Who makes the best adapter plates to run a Ford ZF5 behind the common rail?

I'm sure there will be plenty more as the build progresses but we've got to start somewhere! I'll post some pictures of it soon

Thanks Guys!

I have always liked the quality of Destroked stuff
I think they were bought out by GOS performance so I’m not sure now

Which ZF-5 do you have in mind? I used the factory ZF-5 from my 97 F350 powerstroke when I put a 5.9 in, and that was a bit of a mistake. Not enough room in the bell housing for much of a clutch, yet I still had enough clutch to transmit enough torque to push the countershaft races right out of the casting.

That is the one that we were thinking about using. The reason for that trans is on the LM it has a trans tunnel like the H1's have so size is our biggest problem. I should be able to get some good measurements of the opening when I take the engine back out of it hopefully this weekend and if someone knew some sizes of possibly a 6 speed or something else I am all ears! I just need to keep a manual in it for some historic/originality means. I even would like to build a shift gate for it like we do in some of our custom Ferrari set ups.

Sounds like a cool swap. I'd love to shoot and feature it in the magazine once it is finished!

We would love that! The plan is to take it to Amilia Island next year so it will be on the east coast for a little bit, but we would love to have you by the shop in AZ too!

I'm there for the Concours and Grand Prix every year. Hell of a time!

I spoke to Scott yesterday and Aden and GOS are doing the sales and marketing and Scott and Desroked are focused on the manufacturing.

Just wanted to clear any confusion.

Thanks

A 1200lb engine and a heavy clumsy shifting 5 speed in a sports car...why?

Build a Duramax with a T56.

I believe the distance from the input/output centerline to the top of the trans case on a Ford ZF6 is several inches taller than a ZF5, requiring a taller tunnel. I don't have any measurements on the 6 to offer though.

It is a 7500 LBS SUV and the duramax wont fit between the shock towers and We are not going to me modifying the chassis.

That's what I was afraid off. It still may fit but it is hard to tell without getting my hands on one.

Sounds great. Lets keep in touch and get it worked out... Be sure to take plenty of build pics...
