HX40?

Got a line on a T4 HX40 and was curious if anyone else ran one and how they liked it. Not digging the 69mm sx-e for normal daily driving....

What size injectors ? Maybe you're underfueled?
I was looking at the 369 with 5x22 but am gonna do a hx35 67/67/12
Read ALOT on here about daily driving is a PITA with that size injectors, the haze, and cold starting is hard too. Has me considering a 60/67/12 with 5x18 instead
no DV's, all injector

I have Scheid 5x18s which are a ton of fuel.....I haven't done much afc tuning which I'm sure doesn't help. Turbo is rockin and rollin by 2500rpm and would probably be fine with a 13mm pump, but mine starts falling off around 3500 so it isn't much of a powerband. The smoke really wouldn't be bad for country driving, but haze drifting by me at stoplights gets annoying. Makes good power but I can live with more drivability and 100hp less I think.

Holy crap ! Welcome to 1997 JQ.
The HX40 takes me back to the days when a little timing, some governor work, and a set of marine injectors made you the bad boy on the block.

To be honest, I don't think you'd dig the T4 much. Late to spool and the compressor tops out before you get going. Might want to look into a 66 or even 63 for normal driving.

I’ve done a handful of 40/35/351 hybrid 67/68 w/the garrett .76 t3 non gated turbine. Solid results, power comparable to a s366.

What do you recommend with a 67/67/12 hx35? 5x22s? stock DV? The guys at instapool performace suggested that to me

That all sounds horrible... Ok I don’t understand what you are saying or asking here. So first. What do you have? Second what are you trying to achieve? And third, what is your geographic location?

I had one on a 180 pump tight convertor truck with all the usual stuff. Hated it pulling a trailer, you had to black out an intersection to get it moving. Back in the day.

9cm

There is a 14cm T4 housing that we have ran on our pull truck. I gave it back to the builder though and built a T4 9cm hx housing out of a he 9cm, milled for the same 67mm turbine wheel. The issue with the 12 is its peak torque location vs the flow capacity of the 67 compressor do not really line up well. The 9 with the high efficiency internal gate gets the two choke flow locations matched up a lot better or a t4 14-16-17-19-21cm that have larger internal gates and a choke flow on the hot side at a higher engine speed to let the big compressor do it’s job. I look at spool up vs peak torque rpm on the dyno here to gather data so if you need any charts I can look to see if I have a run with a particular turbo. The 14cm t4 is a pretty cool housing. It’s like a mini hx52 13cm.

63 68 .83 is what you're looking for. I've ran the S369. It is a riot on the interstate or anywhere after 1900 with good fuel and tuning on a 12 valve. The 13mm housing is more laggy behind the 68 turbine and lacks top end on top of all that.
