QCSB Dually conversion.

Since its the off season I figured I would give you guys something to look at... I needed a dually to pull my race trailer this coming season and I am too cheap and poor to go buy a new truck, so I just converted my 04 2500 into a dually. It wasnt the best feeling making corners loaded down on 37s with only 17" wheels. It got about 8MPG pulling 13MPG unloaded, hopefully it will get a little better with the lower gears now.

I left the 2500 springs as I use the truck daily to go to and from work, so I really didnt want a rougher ride, when I load it down I will just put some air in the over load bags. I had a dually parts truck already, so I used its rear axle and installed some 4.10 gears, and repainted it. The dually axles are about 1.5" or so wider than the SRW axle. The pic is with SRW wheels and dually axle.

Saturday I installed the rear axle in my driveway, (35* and raining the whole time) then installed the front dually spacers and new front tires I had previously mounted on some 2012 Dually Alcoas.

Then Sunday morning I went to my buddies shop and swapped the dually wheels and old tires over.

Then Sunday evening I went out to my parents house and swapped the beds.

I am happy with the way it turned out, I have had this truck for a long time, (about 9 years and 400k miles) so its nice to have some change without getting rid of this ole dog. I will get some better pics of the truck completed and clean once it stops raining.

Specs on the truck are as follows...

stock 5.9 longblock, injectors, cp3

FASS pump

Hp tuners @ 2500ms and 28* timing (wont get over 1200*egts towing at WOT)

HE351/467 compounds

Mild 48re, DPC low stall single, transgoVB, stock shafts, BD billet FP

4.10 gears

37/12.50r17 Nitto Trail Grapplers

3" KORE springs, Fox resi shocks, custom radious arms, 1" block in rear.

Custom front and rear bumpers (built by me)

Firestone Overload bags

Ha, I appreciate it.

I want to keep fixing the truck up a little more, I am debating spraying the bumpers and rockers with color matched Raptor Liner. Same with the bed, white Raptor Liner with a black bed mat would look nice and help things hold up well.

I also need to install some cab lights, and I may put a curved white LED light bar on the front bumper.

Are your rear tires going to touch each other, when tiring? I would make sure they don’t, add a spacer between them.

They have some room, I used a 1/4” spacer on the very inside (to keep from rubbing the leafs) and a 2” spacer between the duals.

:rockwoot::rockwoot: Immediately I thought of Melody Jai and the YouTube video(s) of her and her 'Whooty', perfect license plate for that truck!

Also, that truck is sexy as F@*&! SB Duallys have always grabbed my attention and this one is no different. Looks great man!

Looks really good! How do you like the 4.10’s? I have some 4.10 DRW axles to swap in mine when I get time:bang

Thanks! I think they are perfect for 37s, I run a little under 1900rpm at 70mph. With the 3.73s I was at about 1650rpm at 70 which was good unloaded, but pulling I could use a little more RPM, even with my small tow twin set. 4.30s would have put me between 2000-2100rpm which is where the drone is really bad, I would like to keep the truck as quiet as possible so I opted for 4.10s.

I bet you've seen a decent mpg dip.

That's the only thing I miss on the 37s (basically) with the old 22.5 setup was their ability to sustain momentum at speed. When i went to the current Fuels with 37s I lost 3-5mpg. :bang

No better feeling than just floating at 1900rpms doing 80 getting 18+mpgs.

I have never got very good mileage, even with stock sized tires I was at 16mpg. I havent ran a full tank through it yet, so I dont know how much it has changed.

That look really good. Interested to see how you like it towing with the 4.10s over the 3.73s with those 37s. I have 3.73s and 35's and it hates towing heavy. I just threw stock size tires and wheels on it that I had laying around and it has so much more low end now.

Love the mega cab bed on a regular quad cab short bed.

Chit boys, it’s almost race season. Time to get everything ready for the season.

No air in the bags.
