Performance engine Oil.

What’s the best full synthetic performance engine oil? I know everyone has there own opinion. Looking for good anti-wear with high ZDDP zinc content. I currently am using Penngrade 1 (Brad penn) 15w40 and a couple bottles of Lucas ZDDP additive, but when the truck comes out of storage the oil is being changed and wanted to know if I should stick with it or switch brands. Truck is a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with a long rod 6.4L around 1000hp daily driven and rode pretty hard, with occasional track use. I am using a Hubb Billet reusable filter with oil change intervals between 1500-3000 miles depending on if I race it or not. Price doesn’t matter, and I don’t test my oil so anybody that has tested oil please chime in. Was thinking about a switch to Cenpco but wanted other opinions on what everyone is using. The penn grade 1 I can get from my local NAPA.

I've always used cenpeco and only have good things to say about it. Not sayings it better than some of the other guys but I like it and most of the shops up here push it pretty hard.

Thanks Dom. I have heard good things about Cenpco and know of a couple racers using it is why I am concidering it.

Have always heard good things about Brad Penn and Cenpeco. I have always used Schaeffers myself with no reason to try anything else. Carry on.

Started using Brad Penn in my 06 last year. I see that Hot Shot is coming out with their own oil, Firepunk has good things to say about it.

Shaffer’s, Cenpco, Brad Penn, PDD seem to be tops so far. Definitely interested in the Hot shot secret oil and the new Amsoil performance Diesel oil. Anybody know Zinc content In any of the brands? I know Shaffer’s is 1400-1800ppm Zinc content, and Penn grade 1 advertises Zinc mass% @ 0.150? on there site. Couldn’t find much on Cenpco, or PDD.

Brad Penn here. In our pullers and our hot street and drag truck. The big time tractor pullers that we engine dyno at all use it as well..

We can get Schaeffer oil around here for not much more than rotella, seems to be good stuff. Most serious guys I run into use brad penn.

Swepco 15-40 in the harsh, unforgiving climate of Northern California.

Maybe some rotella t6 in the deepest darkest part of winter.

Schaeffer's or Valvoline VR1 is the only thing I run in the pullers. I've been running the VR1 and I'm switching back to Schaeffer this year.

I started running Schaeffers 15w-40 in my puller last year. Their full synthetic racing oil. Noticed an immediate difference in easier startup and a smoother idle. Oil sample after 5 hooks and zinc was over 1900 ppm. Lots of opinions on here, but unless you have an actual oil sample tested it doesn’t mean chit.

Brad Penn is good, but be careful about adding extra zinc to the oil on a street driven truck. More is not always better. Do oil samples, to see where you are ending up. To much zinc on a street truck and you will start getting gaskets, and seals starting to leak.

Yea, 2 bottles of zddp on top of a race oil? Maybe look into running 20/50 if you only drive it in the summer months. I don't run anything special in my truck as it's not "built" with high spring pressures, but Brad Penn is used in the old man's race cars and my bike. I don't see a reason for you to switch, but most of the oils these guys listed I would be comfortable with.
