1977 F250 Highboy Swap

Haven't had much time to work on it lately but got the engine in hopefully for the last time, steering gear box tapped and steering shaft made, transmission case sent off to Goerend to be modded and sprag drilled and tapped, and seat is ready to be picked up at upholstery shop.

Looking great. Top notch work.

On that rear suspension, what travel are you shooting for? It's hard to tell from pics, but the shackle looks short for the spring you've got...unless amount of travel isn't a priority.

It should have good travel, but they are 8" super duty lift springs and the hangers are in the same location as a stock super duty so should be good. They have plenty of movement in either direction.

Axle side track bar mount done and track bar made.

Didn't like any of the store bought trailer hitches, so I made my own that tucks right under the bumper out of 3/8" thick steel.

Very nice work. The hitch turned out nice. I forgot to mention, the steering column mod was a great idea. I wish I would have done that to my 72 to make things a little nicer. I may have to go do that later on.

Cutting and turning the end of the steering column is a great idea.
I made a bell crank for my '71. I like your idea better.
Very clean pickup. Great work.

Some more progress:

Thanks, would like to see your swap. I was about to build a bell crank but was trying to simplify.

It is looking very nice! That's a good feeling to have it setting on it's own again.

When you get past that hump when everything is torn apart and it seems like it is never going to get done is nice and gets you motivated. Finally putting stuff together is nice instead of tearing everything you look at apart. Thanks for the compliments, hope it won't be too much longer before its making noise again!

Nice work! It's gotta be a good feeling to get it rolling again. I'm looking forward to seeing your wheel and tire choice.

I still have concerns about the shackle length as well as the clearance of the axle panhard bar mount. Both in my opinion are limiting the truck to 4 inches or less of upward travel.

The shackle has to be long enough to allow the leaf spring to flatten. So measure along the leaf spring...then go back and measure from perch to perch...the difference is the require shackle length. It still might hit the inverted mount as well...

Well after being gone for work for about 3 months and breaking my phone, I finally got a couple things done and some pictures to share. Not much but in the right direction.

Pulled the door panels and ordered some black ones and test fit tweeters along with installing new door speakers.
