Stories on how your 5r110 Performed

I recently purchased an 08 four door shortbed 6.4 power stroke, which I am going to cummins swap. At the moment I'm trying to decide what trans I should use. Originally I wanted to do a 24 valve vp44 motor with an nv5600, but now I am considering keeping the 5r110. I've seen the horror stories of having issues with it. I would like to hear from those who have used it behind a cummins and how it worked for them. I hate to spend the money to make it work and have a trans thats never going to be right and always have issues with. My other thoughts is to use a 47re. Or I'm possibly considering a 48re/common rail set up either 5.9 or 6.7.

A friend of mine has a stock 5r with a good converter behind a cr with a smarty, been great for 3 or 4 years. I've been bugging him to get a custom trans program but he hasn't yet.

I've got 40k miles on my 12valve/5r110 swap. It took a lot of time to get the tranny to shift the way it should behind the 12 valve, I've had over 30 custom tunes from different tuners around the country to get it where I wanted it. I went with a triple disk converter and a shift kit in the VB. The tranny runs great and shifts firm but if I had to do it all over again I would do the NV5600 or the 48re. Just my .02

So hes running the stock 5r110 with a good converter on the stock TCM running factory programming?

Care to share who ended up getting it tuned the way it is now?

Yep, it still thinks it has a 6.0 in front of it, we did a forced relearn but that's it.

I have a stock 5R110 and converter behind a 12 valve in a Ford E450 that works great. Using an 04 Ford computer as a standalone. Wiring harness mods and tuning by Jason at transmission tuner.com. Jason programs to make the stock converter lockups work well with the 12 valve. I've been very happy for over a year.
