Common rail swap into 2nd gen

Anyone ever actually done this swap? I’m talking everything working like factory. My main concern is what did you do for a vacuum pump to still run the hvac? And what about cruise control? I have a second gen here that has a cracked block and the spare I had ended up having a cylinder wall chipped out. And I can go buy a 6.7 truck and use the engine and wiring from it. That part I’m fine with and can do with ease.

Early 3rd gens (03-04) used a small vacuum pump for the heater controls.
There's also aftermarket options, I believe.

IIRC, you must use the TIPM from the 6.7 truck for the ECM to not go SKIM crazy.

I plan to do this with my 01. My swap would most likely include an A1000 and possibly mating my body onto a 3rd gen chassis.

It will depend on what year of 2nd gen for cruise. Bunch of little nit picky crap through the years on them.

It’s a 99, looks like I’m gonna go through with it. Picking the donor truck up today. Will be installing a 6.7 with the intentions of everything working including the exhaust brake.

Treat it as a stand alone regarding the engine. You will need both the ecm and pcm from the 99 to make the cluster work.

I don't think you will find a way to get the cruise to work unless you used the early 5.9 common rail electronics on the 6.7. The cruise is in the ECM on the later 5.9/6.7 trucks.

You could do something like make the servo actuate the APPS.

Well that’s not a good answer I will take the stock cruise cable and attach it to the pedal if I have to. My main question is if I need the tipm or not and I haven’t gotten a straight answer. If I have to use it it’s not a big deal.

I’m also getting ready to swap 6.7 in 2nd gen. From what I’ve been told you need to run every thing from donor. Tipm, pedal, cluster, ignition etc .

That's what I mentioned....hook the servo to the APPS.

No, you don't need the TIPM.

I seen a thread you had and never seen if it was finished. So the tipm is not needed and the 60% load I’m guessing can be tuned around it? Exhaust brake still work without it?

My understanding is the 60% load was able to be tuned out. For the EB, I would use a fleece controller. If you want to use stock, well then you will need a TIPM and a lot of stock electronic pieces. You will also need a way to lock the converter and control the transmission, which brings up another problem....the APPS for the stock 2nd gen pcm and the 6.7 APPS.

Truck is a 6 speed so won’t need to worry about a converter. If it’s going to need an aftermarket controller then I’ll go ahead and get an s400 for it.

No, you don't need the TIPM.

Clarification is needed here.
Everything I have been looking at so far has said you need the TIPM and a corresponding functioning SKIM module to make the 6.7 ECMs work.

If you know something different, please share it, because I have people telling me it's not happening at this point.
At least, not with the 6.7 CM2100 ECMs.

Destroked says you don’t need skim or the tipm. Diesel conversion says you need skim, tipm and the original key, I told that to the guy at Destroked and he says he hopes they keep telling people that because it gets them more business.

So, in other words, nothing conclusive, nothing you have actually seen work or used personally.
