56 chevy 3100 build thread

Awesome! I'm glad to see you are still making progress and keeping us updated. I'm excited to see the final product!

Thanks to all. It is a learning experience and i enjoy it.

Jeff-would love to. Since i started the build i told my buddy the truck will be pulling his boat to the susquehanna as soon as it is done. We are headed to Tennessee fri evening for a week of largemouth fishing. Will be sending you a care package as soon as i get back

Sorry i to wait until tomorrow am when I get to my work computer. Worked on the truck on and off in between fixing other trucks. I will have this thing done by summer, I am tired of seeing it sit and not driving it. I hate body work but I am getting better at it. 6 pieces smoothed and primed this weekend. Weds plan to shoot 5 coats of black epoxy on the 6 pieces then move on to the next fender. I will be posting updates.

primer is still a bit wet in the pics. a little block sanding and they will be ready. I am happy with how the pieces turned out.

been using 2k urethane surfacer from eastwood. going to use 2 part epoxy sealer in black as the top coat for now. I would like to eventually paint the truck in a 2 tone flat black and blue.

weekend update.
got 4 good coats on the drivers door and pass rear fender, door looks perfect but ended up getting a small run on the fender. Plan to fix that this evening and reshoot the fender. shot POR-15 bedliner on the bed floor and rear bed steps and installed both. fuel filler cap is in and floor is bolted down. Had to work on my girlfriends truck yesterday, once it was done I block sanded the entire cab of the truck. plan to paint it weds. going to start on the pass door tonight or tomorrow. Not happy with some of my initial panel work, going to cut it out and weld a new piece in. Also remake the window track since I am converting both doors to single pane glass instead of having a vent wing.

had to reshoot the fender. had a small run that I had to fix. now that the cab is final painted I can hang the finished door in stead of having it sit around the shop. 1 step at a time

i am not planning to clear it. in the future I would like to have it professionally painted a shade of blue, or who knows maybe I will take a stab at it. when I started the project I fully accepted that it wasn't going to be perfect. there are places that are pitted and prob should have been replaced but I don't want this truck to be a garage queen or only for shows. I plan to drive it, use it and enjoy it. i am considering painted the grille and head light bezels the dark gray i used on the dash to break up the black a little.

started fitting the drivers side door last night, what a PITA. spent 2 hours trying to get the gaps adjusted just right.

Still working on the truck. Drivers door is mounted, single piece window is fitted. Going to paint the inside of the doors as soon as get the pass side complete. Pass door window tracks are modified and ready for the single piece glass, starting bondo tomorrow. Got the windshield I stalled tonight. Had a hernia repaired 2 weeks ago so the no lifting has delayed me a bit.
