Converter life expectancy 1500-2000hp

How many 1/8 mile passes would be normal out of a converter clutch on truck making 1500-2000hp Locking on the 1-2 shift with a 5000lb truck. the 1-2 shift happens at 5100rpm. Line pressure is 200psi. Converter is a DPC 4disc in 2800 stall.

Have 7 passes on the truck now and clogged the filter when unloading off the trailer the next day. Pan was filled with converter clutch, rest of the clutches in the trans looked fine.

Your problem is most likely dragging the convertor clutches while staging.

There is a spring and bypass I can't remember the name of it as of now, but going to a stiffer spring will help stop the issue.

Contact firepunk, they have sold me the spring before.

What jasonc Said.... But I will say, I wouldnt expect much more than 10-15 passes at that power level without a refresh.... Depending on how long you sit on the converter.

Would this spring and bypass still apply with me having a Cope billet trans brake valvbody.
I agree that the trans will need to be refreshed often at this level of power. I can see that the forward clutches are a little darker and have seen some heat, then when I put them in.

Ditch dpc, get into a suncoast or goerend

With respect the issue is with the valvebody not the converter. High stall, over 165 psi staging and the big 3 disk converter its more troublesome. DTT valvebody, DTT valvebody with firepunk spring and a Redline valvebody in total took out 7 converters on my truck...Phil worked with me on everyone of them. Had pdd build me a valvebody and no more issues. I have run with 200 rpm tighter then stock stall and 2600 rpm stall with no issues to date. im only running a 9.6 though around 1000hp but my frictions looked better then yours, im still using the same ones currently.

What et and mph are you running with the 1500-2000 hp in the 1/8? Thanks

Truck ran 5.45, 5.39, 5.5 Trap at the 1/8 was 127-131

Solid man, not sure John is going to want to hear his valvbody is causing the clutches in the converter to drag.... But this is a fact and a few on here have chased this issue. High stall and line pressure are the main issues. the converter clutches are charged both ways, applied and released the high line pushes through the converter control valve. im not sure on your cope vb or how old it is but there's still some issues to be worked out i believe. I actually have one of his valve bodies for another project and hope this isn't something I'm going to fight again. Will be a nice paperweight.. Im surprised phill didnt mention this to you.... I know he's cut open more then one smoked converter from this issue.....Phil is a solid dude....

I talked to phil today on the phone, he had a lot of good ideas on what is happening and what could help.

Well what are they? Leave us hanging

Need to get the converter apply and release pressures with in 10psi of each other with the release pressure having the higher pressure.
Need to make a spring change in the ccv valve to get them closer together.
Having too much release pressure will pin the clutches against the piston and drag them.
