Black Jack Racing team won the B final on Brands Hatch.

During the last races in Zolder Belgium they had big cooling problems on the breaks and engine cooling system so after the races in Zolder they made good changes to the water cooling systems for the breaks and radiator.

The mid end power of the D13A Volvo engine proven to be there as they where able to run the whole circuit in one gear only using the gear splitter.
Still the problems is EGT and that’s effects the top end power as they still need to hold back on fuel so some work needs to be on the turbocharger and waste gate and intercooler system.

Next project for 2014 is investigating how we can improve engine performance on two type of Euro5 13L race truck engines.
Smoke reduction compared to Euro 3 or even Euro 4 engines is a lot so not a lot of effort will be needed on that part.
The big gain I’m hoping for is to find a turbo with low inertia so spool-up will be a lot faster but I also have to look into how the driver is handling the power he has to it’s disposal as having instant 4000Nm+ torque can be hard to handle.

I was reading pulling rules for finnish truck classes, they should be the same as dutch. There says gearbox and drive axle must be original manufacturer. How can you use ZF box and DAF axle ? OK, Scania heavy haulers have been using ZF boxes with torque converter but there has never been DAF axles. I dont even understand why you want to use weaker ZF box, is it 16 sp vs. 14 sp, better gearing ?

The VTN and NTTO rules state that the truck must have a European road approval so even some US build trucks can be used. OK for parts, the engine make must be the same as the truck or the engine must have been used in the type of truck even if it was a prototype with European road approval. There is even a truck with European road approval that has a C18 Cat in it for example same is you can use a Cummins N14 engine in a DAF truck.

Gearbox and axle must be original to a truck not to what have been used on the truck so if we want we can even use a rear axle of a terminal truck used for loading and unloading RORO ships with a reduction ratio of 12 so yes we have a lot of freedom on parts and so far all team use standard parts some with minor modifications.

We call it a DAF axle but is it really DAF??? NO!

ZF gearbox weak? Don’t think so and the gearbox we use is stock. The secret of it all lays in the way we build the truck eliminating weak spots. Torque up the whole semi truck lifting only one front wheel from the ground and change is breakdowns happen more often due to the fact that the whole alignment isn’t there any more so a great deal of effort is spend on that part alone.

We are building a new Scania Torpedo truck and over time it will be replacing de Manne van Janne 1 truck puller. The new truck will have a V8 16 litter engine. This project still runs empty walled due to our sponsors providing us the parts but more sponsors are always welcome.

Maybe the finnish translation is wrong, I have to check english version.

ZF boxes have not been very reliable in road use, even 13 litre Ivecos break them all the time, no problems with Volvo or Scania boxes even behind tuned 16 litre engines.

Yes, Sisu has road approval for C18, too bad they are so unreliable engines.

Last truck races on Brands Hatch where we won the last race with the number 44 Balck Jack Volvo truck.
Mid end power on this engine is there but still need some work done on getting the intake air temp down to get the EGT down.

A sneak preview of the New Scania Torpedo V8 we are building.

The new build is made possible by all our sponsors donating load of parts and so far we can proceed with the build almost empty walled.
There is not yet a date set when this project will be ready but all team members are putting in a lot of time and effort and so far we did not see any delays.

No it actually was just showing a red x, not the aesthetics of the machine. It is working now though.

We aren't allowed to run anything that isn't DOT legal so it keeps that type of tire out of competition.

We were earlier limited to twin 315 wide tyres but rules were changed so that competitors can pull in Holland too if they want.
