New build Volvo D16K Commonrail 50% more pump and fuel capacity over standard.
Volvo D16K also used by Mack (can not recall engine type) is rated as 750Hp/3500Nm in Europe as standard.
Yesterday we had the first runs on the pulling track with a bit of bad luck. First run a plastic fuel return line melted due to a pressure regulator valve opening a small bit with over 2000Bar of fuel pressure and that’s getting hot very easy so changed the software a bit but as you want a good result unable to make other changes to get more power. Also o2 sensor did decide not to give a correct reading so we got some lose end on the data logging thing but happy with the result already clearing out smoke on the runs.
This fuel system can go up to 3000Bar max and its key to get as close to this number as possible to get fuel in as hard and fast as possible so we still need to dial in the pump units I bit more but things are looking good. Ones we get that done the limiting factor will be compression ratio on this engine as this is still standard and chance is we can not advance injection as for getting combustion to soon before top dead centre.
This Volvo engine run in Hobby Sport class so 2500Rpm max and 74mm inlet retractions so only from 1700Rpm downwards you start making decent boots pressure but low end toque on these engines is insane.
Our Scania SuperSport puller still going strong holding 3e overall now. to bad we had the last pull on the soft track so happy getting 4e place yesterday.
