Best Spool for Dana 60?

What company makes the best spool for a dana 60 3.55 gear ratio? and where could i get it? I've seen yukon makes some but only for 4.10 ratio and up for some reason? trucks only used for sled pulling so don't really care how it handles on the street. thanks in advanced.

If only for sled pulling I'd ditch those gears and go with at least 4.10's. 4.56 or 4.88 would be better. I personally don't know of anyone running that high a gear in a dedicated puller. That's probably why your only finding spools for the numerically high gear sets.

Spools suck trying to turn. If you don't have full hydraulic steering you just about can't turn one. Give a spartan locker a try if you don't want to spend money on a Detroit. Customer I have running a spartan has broken 2 d60 pinions this year and locker is still in great shape.

we have 410s in it now but we're switching to 3.55s for more ground speed. way to much rpms and bounces off the rev limiter. and ill have to look into spartan if there not too much money

Going to a 3.55 gear will put alot of stress on everything.. what's your engine/trans setup currently? What size tire are you running? What hears have u tried pulling with? I know alot of guys including me that run a nv4500 pull in 4lo 4th gear.. and also run a 33"-35" tire

I have a spartan locker in mine and it has held up great. I would recommend that. Also makes turning easy.

Not to hijack the thread. I'm also looking for something for the front of my truck and was going to use a spool. I have 35 spline axles and a SpynTec free spin kit to go in it as well.

Having the hubs unlocked would make it easy to turn until I lock the hubs in correct? Or should I look into getting a locker as opposed to a spool? Truck will be street driven as well.

that is correct. unlocking even one hub will allow you to turn, but both is better and then your front Dshaft doesn't even have to spin.

i think you are looking at a mini spool vs full spool. there really isn't much else for spool. the rest are a variation of lockers that disengage or engage in different methods.

If you can afford it, full spool is best, but a mini spool is just fine as well.

If you have the ability to unlock your front hubs, I'd weld the spiders amd call it a day.. that's what I did on my fummins with a ford dana 60. Pull onto track, back up to sled then before getting chain tight a helper or the flag guy will lock in my one hub. Pull ahead to tighten chain, then flagger at end will usually unlock one hub and u drive off no problem. Been running mine that way for 2 seasons and haven't had any issues yet

3:55 suck for sled pulling... Been there did that! What gear are you in and what gsk do you have? What rpm does it defuel at?

This is for a v10 gasser lol. But everything else in the drivetrain is the same that's why I figured to ask base on which company makes the best spool that's all

4.10 and down is the same carrier in a 60. The split is at 4.56. Get a Yukon Grizzly Locker, easy to find in the 4.10 and down and you will be a lot happier turning through the pits.
