Dropping the front end??

Daring to be diffrent!!
Guys,
Im fianally getting around to puting my truck togeather. The motor will be done pretty soon and while Im waiting on a few more parts Im thinking about what I need do do to my front suspention to get the ol gals nose in the dirt.
A buddy of mine that I work with said he will give me a set of low pro 16" tires to go on the front, That will let me drop about 6 inches there, but what else can I do? Do I need to strap my front end? If so how would I go about it? I do have a streight front axel with coil springs.
Thanks guys

You shouldnt have to strap the front end. I dont strap mine on the dmax. Low profile 16 inch tires will be great. Keep in mine your first pull may not be the best. Even if u do make a full pull u may be able to play with the weight and get it to hook even harder. Weight placement plays a big roll in the 2wd truck. 2wpuller ( Dale ) can probley shine a little more light on what to go with as far as suspention.

Don't strap the front end let it shoot up when you come out of the hole that way you will load the rearend faster.

Thanks fellas,
Dale, Ive been aiming on giving ya a shout, but Ive been covered up here lately, Seems like everytime I turn around we have a Fire call. We had about a 100 acre brush fire today that has about wore me out. I hate it being this dry.
But Ill try and give ya a ring tomarrow.

We have been getting alot of rain I try to send you some.call any time just siting around still this week this schoulder thing realy sucks not being able to do anything.

Dale

You can use 2500 gasser front spring that would drop it more if it needs it.
I don't have to worry about front suspention or rear suspention ours are bothe solid.

softer springs up front would allow for faster weight transfer.... much like dragracing...
90/10 or similar....shocks would probly help as well in weight x-fer..

as for short tires.. passenger tires run as short as 26" tall for a 16" rim.
with 33" in the back will be a ~3.5 rake on top of what you are runing with the suspension.

the only thing about letting the front suspension spring up off the line is you will imediatly loose hitch hieght. Thats why the front suspension on our 2wd gasser is welded solid. You can hang enough wieght on the back to get it to hook up off the line. If you get that truck running by the Memorial Pull on the 25th, we are going to to one of the 3 things. Either you will snap the rearend frist thing, blow the tires off the whole way down the track, or hook up off the line and be star gazing, lol. If so you will probably be the star of the show, lol.

i agree to a point... if makeing a truck strick pull truck yes... a DD truck i would strap the front down instead of welding it..

Way to build my confidence there Bragg....:kick: :Cheer:
Yeah Im hoping that it will hold togeather I would really like to see it pull the front tires.

Im still debating on a tire selection for the rear, The ATs I have on right now arnt agressive enough Im afraid, And I know that if I put on too much tire I will just break stuff. We have some real hard hooking clay tracks around here but I just dont know. Any suggestions?

need at least a 315 wide tire...IMHO or dual 285s

got 325s on a 18" rim

375s on a 16 both 33 and 35" talll MTZ/ATZ form Mickey tomphson

33 and 36x14.5 STS on a 16

def want soem bars to keep the axle from moving forward

Most likelythe font end isn't going to shoot up of the line with street tires untill the pan starts to get loaded.Y could put the limit straps on but my oppion allow 3 to 4in of free travel.
My front axle is mounted solid also.
If you realy want to get some bite put some dual 285 Truxas on they bite real hard on Missouri clay.
And def put some Heavyduty bars on they will have more pressure on them than a 4x4 has.Correct me if I am wrong on this.
And keep the hitch as short as your rules allow.

Dale

I mean the distance from the rear end to the end of the hitch not from the ground my mistake for not explaining my self the oxy at work Heheeeeee.

Dale

dont you got that backwards?????????????? :poke:

you want it as tall as allowed

I think what dale is saying is try to keep the hook point as close to the truck as possible to keep from loosing as much hitch height. We do this with our tractors by shoving the drawbar as far in as possible. This also helps on a speed sled.
