Mishimoto Blows Up an Intercooler!
Watch what happens when a stock diesel intercooler tries to keep up with one of our performance aluminum intercoolers! This test proves that Mishimoto intercoolers can handle the pressure, and keep pushing the limits!
Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Thanks,
Tyler Sylvester

Cool test.
Looks like you need to get a larger compressor. I feel the need to see the aluminum one explode. I would recommend a better containment barrier.

Seen a few tests like this, claim to hold 100psi. Thats great but try adding some heat and a couple 3 pressure surges like oh I dont know turbo's spooling. Hereis a pic of a intercooler guaranteed to hold 100psi....it let go @ 65psi on the freeway on ramp

Need to see more now. More tests. More breakage.

One test of an OEM is not conclusive. A random pull of one sample from each 100 off an assembly line would be conclusive....but I applaud your effort. And what's with that candy ass 125 psi air compressor? We want to know where yours will fail. Is it 126 or 185?

How about using Heat and a air compressor that'll produce more CFM than the one used as well.

x2 applaud you for the effort!
whats with a shop air at 125psi?? mine at the house goes to 150.. most commercail grade run 175psi
add 400* environment.. i have had plastic sheathing rated for 350* melt to the CAC hot pipe..
granted 3/4 of the trucks on this forum are under 80 psi of boost..
hydro pressure test it

Yea, it's a cool video of it blowing up, but the test is way under par for a company building this kind of product. That video makes Mishimoto look far less professional than the pics we saw of their facility.
You should know it needs to be tested beyond 125 psi, and definitely add heat into the equation.

~28,000 members im sure is a safe bet are not running more than 80 psi boost.. a more bold statement would be 75% of the active memebers arent either

Only on CompD does someone post their video of a stock intercooler blowing up and the aftermarket not and we see the need to call their compressor "pansy".
I agree that more air is needed, and bursts of air like a charger spooling is also needed. Time to go rent a commercial compressor for a day... It is amazing how much air these chargers push, sometimes it is not PSI but CFM that get the intercoolers.

testing something that stock form handles ~20-30psi and flows ~50lb/im or ~800cfm with something that make 125psi and flows maybe 20cfms little offset while slowly adjusting the regulator is little off

They might not post but theres plenty here over or at 80. Also boost is a measure of restriction, so more is not always better.

Jesus there's some, **** on here. The static test is just fine for burst pressure, bursts of air like a charger spooling??? WTF
There is a really really small group on this forum that are pushing 100lbs let alone 125lbs.
The real questions are how does it flow in comparison and in heat rejection.

#1- Not putting anything called "mishimoto" or any other rice burner name on my truck #2- "Dude" in the video sounds way too effeminate to be taken seriously.

You are an idiot and no one cares what you put on your truck.
Have seen their 6.4 radiators make drastic changed on a tow slut.
Yes the test could be taken more in depth but this is the first I've seen of any intercooler manufacture release any test video... Better than nothing.
