How do you tell lb7 from lly

You can just look at the engine. the lb7 will have a blue silicone intercooler tube on the hot side. the lly will have a solid metal tube.
 
All I have is the vin to go off of right now so thats not going to help me at this point but thanks for those tips guys.
 
You're correct about the VIN, 8th digit is "1", it's an LB7, if it's a "2" it's an LLY.
04 was the crossover year between the two.
