06 superduty witch manifold

Planning on putting a ppumped 24v in my 06 supersuty 6.0 zf6 truck. But in the air at Witch manifold to use. 3rd gen setup or 2nd gen flipped. What are the pros and cons. Just going to run a single. Not intereated in twins.

I would say stainless diesel manifold. I like mine and have read that they are the best for a street truck. that will be a really sweet truck! Basically my dream truck. What cab and bed? 4wd?

Witches wear hats and fly on brooms. I think you meant "which" ;-)

Also, the last comment is talking brand and material. Look up Stainless Diesel.

Either way, I'd stick with a T3 if you're running a manual. Everyone will tell you SteedSpeed is the best, Stainless is second best but they're pricey. Basically any other cast or three piece cast will be a performance bump, and if you port match, you'll pick up flow and bring down EGTs.

Ha ha. Which /witch. Dang phone. Yes im staying with a t3. But no one has commented on 3rd gen setup or flipped 2nd. Down low out of the way. Or up on top of the motor is really where i was directing this question.

2nd gen style is going to keep backpressure more balanced between cylinders than the 3rd gen. Plus you have way more aftermarket options.

Flipping it up or down is your call. I'm not sure how much room you'll have in your Ford, but I thought they were a squeeze with the tall I6. I'd think anything more than an HE351 or HX35 are going to hit the hood without modification. My vote would be to do a T3 2nd gen manifold (probably bought off classifieds here), and stock with something like an s363 or smaller. I know some run bigger turbo's on manuals, but for DDing it, I don't like them. Unless you're going compounds, but you're not!

Being uneducated on the layout of a SD engine bay (so take this with a large grain of salt), I'd think a hi-mount 2nd gen would make the most sense for access. Guys run twins on these trucks, so a flipped manifold is most likely going to fit. I know you don't need to work on the turbo often, but I hate the low mount 3rd gen style for access.

Flip it

I ran a 2nd Gen flipped puts it up top and with a aftermarket exhaust your 6.0 2 piece 4" down pipe turns and bolts directly up to it. I don't know how to load pictures

I am running a 3rd gen style. I prefer the look of the 3rd gen to the 2nd gen flipped unless there is another turbo hanging under it. The only thing I will say is i had a heck of a time finding clearance to make the 90 for the comp outlet. In fact I have a 90 3in. silicon boot that I am sure will pop one day. I ended up clearancing my shock bracket and spacing it off the frame 1/4in to get the pipe to clear. This may not be an issue with your 06 front end (compared to my 03.)

Saying this I am currently collecting parts to build twins so this will go all out the window.

if your going to stay with a single id run a 3rd gen style, ive had both. a normal 3rd gen downpipe will pretty much line right up with your 6.0 exhaust. just buy and extra clamp and might have to cut a hair off. no piecing things together with angles and what not, just buy the exhaust from the SD and down pipe from 3rd gen and get to it. the intercooler tube from turbo to intercooler is a straight shot, no angle to deal with or anything.. get one of the new steed 3rd gen style manifolds, it would probably solve the temp issues other guys were talking about.
for ease of install go with 3rd gen.

May be able to get down your way over the weekend if you'll be around, you can look at my 2nd gen flipped with BD stainless, added a hx40 flange to the 6.0 down pipe , clocked it 90* and bolted it up to the S300, with my engine set back for mechanical fan there's not much room to run the down pipe over the bell housing like some do in auto trans trucks. ZF6 has a big starter hump in the clutch housing that auto trans doesn't have, thats one of the main reasons we went with 2nd gen flipped, exhaust was easier to make up.
If you have a hole open in the shop we'll pull mine in and you can go over it, take some pics if you see something you like.

Click the image to open in full size. s467 on a steed speed flipped upside down. I had a s366 on a 3rd gen style before and it had a ton of room. Sounds so much better with a 2nd gen style manifold in my opinion. On the flipped manifold I used a first gen down piper spliced with a second gen to make it work.

Their calling for a little snow Sunday but we'll see what it does, have a Fire Dept meeting at 1:00 so it would be later in the day, could come down later today if it's not real late when you get back.

This is what I have and works just fine. The exhaust isn't that bad to fab up. Chop saw and some U-bends. No big deal.
