No-one in particular. Just thinking out loud.
With mine, I would like to think efi will be around forever and I will never suffer an ecm failure, but the reality is that eventually I will be in a position where one or both are difficult to obtain. It just depends on how long the truck runs.

The P-pump swaps have their corks too. You better just buy 2 sets of lines when you get them. That way you aren't stuck without one when they crack or break. Because it isn't if, it is when. You can add extra isolators, have the pump balanced, injectors flow matched, what ever. They still break and it is a PITA! An extra set of lines is still cheaper than a VP and an upgraded fuel system though. Haha

This is true. Lots of R&D in injection lines.

Is cracked lines common on the 12 valves or just p pumped 24valves?

P-pumped 24v. Unless you put larger lines on a 12v. Then you can have the same issue.

Last question I think, are there any pluses or minuses to the different years of the 24 valves? I know about the 53 block and HO and SO injection pumps. Are there any other differences that I should be aware of? What would be the best year to look for?

As far as wiring, 98.5 is different than 99-00.5. ( Map sensor and pin outs.) And pre early 01 is single plug ECM. 00.5-02 has a dual plug ECM. I could be wrong about the dual plug connector ecm and year break ups. It seems Dodge used a lot of previous year stuff some times and things slipped through. 00.5 up has a cam position sensor only. Before that they had a crankshaft position sensor and a cam position sensor. Most HO heads had press in valve seats and some of those have been known to come loose with high egt's. You still need to check the gear housing for the KDP on these as well. Some 6 speed trucks use an engine adapter with an integrated starter spacer. Most of the early 6 speed trucks didn't that I've had apart.

But as far as performance, durability, and fuel mileage they are all the same? Sounds like the later HO with the valve seats might be the only possible difference that could be an issue?
Basically if I buy a 1998 and a 2002 and put the same upgrades, injectors, turbo, programmer. They will both be about the same?

Yeah, pretty much. We've got a 98.5 24v that has 7x.009s, an HX35w because it was a manual, it has an old blue chip VP, which is compared to a hot rod pump, an airdog, and has 500k on it. It gets 20-22mpg, leaks some oil and coolant, but keeps on going. It runs better than most VP trucks we've had. And if you do find a deal on a 053 block.... If it has over 200k on it, there's a good chance it won't crack. But you still never know.

Ho's are a little harder to make power with but most guys say they pull a little better down low than the so when tuned.
