I've seen the inside of several tranmissions that were behind big HP trucks, you'd be surprised how well the 47re components will hold up. However, there is no dispute, the 48re planets are stronger.

As far as pump, the 48re pump's flow more, due to their bigger displacement 10 lobe pump gear and "ported" vanes with better entrance and exit ramps. I typically see a 10 psi line pressure increase going from a 47re pump to a 48re pump with all else being equal, not huge, but a difference none-the-less.

Will,

Is that why the 48's lock up as soon as you flip the switch and 47's have a short delay? Because of the gained flow of the pump? Or is there a way to shorted up the time delay between switch and lockup? I thought buying a built VB would fix it, then I thought buying a fully built trans would fix it. Now I'm convinced a 48re is the only way, but I could definitely be wrong!

Anyone have any input on my previous question? Better to just source the individual parts or better to just find a 48RE core?

48 core would likely be the cheapest if all hard parts are still good

What's your HP goal?

If you can get a 48 core for less then $500 I think you would be ahead that way if all the parts are good.
