12v or p pump 24v drag truck

Why is the 12V better than a p-pump converted 24V? Other than they are slightly cheaper to buy a head for them.

98.5-00 do not have pressed in seats.... technically all 12 and 24 valve Cummins heads have seats, just some are pressed in and some are induction hardened areas that are monolithic-cast with the rest of the head.

Not all 24v heads drop seats, I forget which, but either the newer heads(01-02) or the older (98.5-00) don't have seats...

Soup Nazi:

The earlier SO engines did not have press in seats. Rather, induction hardened faces in the seat area of the casting. They cant drop out.

Those were used from 98.5 and up until about 2001. Cummins is no longer making the induction hardened head casting as far as I know.

You would need to find a used head somewhere and hope it is not cracked. The old 24V heads without press in seats cracked more than I would like to see.
