Budget 6.70 drag truck build!!
I’m super late on starting this as the truck is already pretty far along. But with some of the build threads that have been coming up lately has inspired me to do one on mine. I’ll upload pictures of everything tonight, but just a quick run down. The truck started life as a 2wd 95 reg cab long bed that a buddy of mine owned through high school, that I ended up purchasing off the next owner about mid 2017 as a roller it had a Dana 80 swapped into it but other then that was mostly stock besides drop shackles. At first it was just going to be a street toy/strip truck. But with time plans changed. So on to the build I picked up two core engines to start with. Ended up doing a pretty budget build on the one that was origainly a ve pump has arp rod bolts etc. stock bore mahle low compression pistons oversized ring gaps because I do plan to spray the truck. Ported the head myself over many hours. Did all the supporting mods chromoly pushrods valvesprings bullet piston oilers freeze plugs etc. held off on doing a cam for the time being. Going to see what the limits of the stock 12v cam is. Truck currently has a 180 pump that has been racked 5x22s and a 475 single. Will be going to a 13mm and 480 single in the next year. That’s about all for the heart of the truck

Then once I had my engine plans decided and got to work on the chassis. I decided to cut the truck down to a shortbed and gutted every possible inch of the truck. Aiming to be as light as possible with all steel body panels. Got the doors down to about 40lbs each. The whole front clip weighs maybe 130lbs. Then for safety. Ordered a 8.5 10 point cage from Rhodes race cars. And currently working on my 4 link rear and what I want to do for ride height in the front. Truck will be on 33/15/15 slicks in the rear. I will post pics of the progress tongiht. It has made a big transformation so far. Still a lot more left to go tho.

Plan for the truck is to stay as budget minded as possible. Weight being the main priority since there’s no weight limit on the odss classes. So anything that wasn’t needed is gone. Going to have very minimal wiring and going to run a single battery with no alternator. Will have a full manual 47re with tci ratchet shifter. Truck should be a lot of fun this next season. It will not be rubbed for now. Wheels and tires will just poke like a 4wd. Just focusing on getting it going and making some passes.

Honestly from what I’ve been told and read I’d like to be right around 4K even. I’ve cut almost 1000lbs out so far of just steel. Not counting interior wiring etc. leafs weighed a good bit aswell. Running a very small radiator. Wasn’t going to run one at all but figured a extra 25lbs wouldn’t kill me.

Vacuum and power steering has been deleted. It’s all manual. And will have a rack and pinion setup before the year is over

It’s just bed sides now. I’m gonna do three bars on each side going up at a angle from the frame. Then add braces for the lower part to keep it sturdy.

Fast forward a few months. Moved into my new house with a garage which made things be able to go a lot faster.
Cage is low. It was a prevent cage from Rhodes race cars. It is still clearing the top of my head by about 3.5 inches. So shouldn’t have any issues.

Now we’re working on getting the trans assembled. First time building one fully like this. Ran into a few hiccups but should hopefully be in the truck this weekend. Will have a 2400 stall and has a tfod-3 kit in it.

Got to messing with the truck alittle more the past few days. Currently got the front siting where I want it. Cut 2 coils out of each side and got some budget skinny’s put on. The rear is still about 2 inches higher then I want. Should be starting on the 4 link here in the next few days.

It’s actually a guy local to me that builds them. TCE in gray TN a lot of people local run them and have good luck plus he’s close so if there ever is a issue I can drop it off and pick it up next day!
