Which is a better truck to get 700+hp
I have the option of buying a 95' pete with a 3406e 550hp for 10k or an 03' freightliner classic XL with a single turbo c15 475hp for 15k. I believe both have a few 100k on a rebuild and a few minor electrical issues. Which truck would be a better deal? Also I would like to turn it up to 700-800hp. What would be the most cost effective way to achieve that hp?

Also, the early one should be a 40 pin ecm and the 03 will be 70 pin whether it's a 6nz or mbn. If I remember right my 94 was a 5ek and they're known for crank issues, I never had a problem but it was pretty much stock.
Are you talking wheel hp or crank hp?

The parts that matter in either of them inside are identical and both will live at 700 crank HP and work. You try to go over 700 and you will have to babysit and don't even think of putting a driver in it.

The crank is the same? I thought the 1lw/5ek/2ws cranks were much weaker than the 6nz and up.

Well if they haven't broke by now I would say you have a good one. And it was just random, we had a 2WS break one but it had like a million hard miles. And for every one that broke 1000 more were fine.

It will be a working truck. I haul cattle feed in wyoming/nebraska grossing around 100k, sometimes pushing 120+ pulling out of fields during harvest. Our 550s get the job done but we have to push them pretty hard climbing hills. I assume I could run the truck a little easier with a 700 and still get better pulling power when climbing hills and accelerating on highways.
