Those who have ran a Dropbox/nv4500
I have a question for those of you who have ran a drop box behind an nv4500. How much of an angle to the driver side of the truck are you putting the drop box? This will be in a 97 12 valve dodge, Extended cab long bed. Waiting for my box to show up then I want to start getting it mounted. Also does anyone make a pre made drop box mount?
Thanks
Cody

Guys used to run them laid all the way on their sides. they would hold maybe a quart of oil or less. I never liked them to lay over but a lot of guys did it and didnt seem to have any issues

I don’t want to run it to flat. A lot of the pics I’ve seen have them on a decent angle, but wasn’t sure if there was a specific angle degree that everyone is doing. Or just whatever works and gives a good angle for both front and rear driveshafts
Thanks for the replies

We usually run them on about a 30 degree angle IIRC. Here’s a pic of a combo unit we mounted on an ODL setup we didn’t for a customer

Would you be willing to make another one of those mounts? Of course I’d be willing to pay for it.

I dont have the nv but this how mine is. Main reason I tipped my was i didn't want it to hang below the frame. Also I bought a mount plate that the drop box bolts to then welded it in

I'm running nv4500 with drop box and have it a decent angle. I basically made it so the front driveshaft is as stright a shot to axle as possible.. running a 1610 rear yokes let's there be more of angle to run back to rear. Make the coupling shaft as short as possible, allows for less of a side to side angle. Can snal a few pics of needed

We made everything. I designed the crossmember and my brother cut it on his Cnc plasma.

Isn’t that intermediate shaft suppose to be shielded solid the whole way?
Looks nice and clean

It is a driveshaft so it isn’t necessary to shield it. That was what I was told when I asked ppl when I built it.

I wasn’t sure either so I asked Mears. It has been this way for a couple seasons now. I have never had it questioned. Being that the shaft runs at an angle, a fully shielded shaft would be a pain.

"7. All intermediate shafts between transmission and transfer case will be totally enclosed in 3/8 “aluminium or 5/16” steel, 1/4” of shaft may be visible"
Right on page 19 of the rule book but hey, who really follows that anyways
