Cam still good?

fatty

I pulled a 188/220 out of an engine that had the cam installed incorrectly as it started eating the bearings in the back of the block. The cam had about 1500 miles on new tappets. I measured all the bearings on the cam and they were ALL 2.125". The lobes that I checked were the same also. My question is, is the cam still usable or is it scrap?

Most likely it is good to go. Usually it is caused by poor lubrication on startup or foreign material in the oil galley. Regardless, chuck it up in a lathe with a live center, run a file on the affected area to knockoff high spots. Then polish it with 60 grit, then 120. Should be good to go after that. it is okay to have small divots, just not any material protruding.

Cheers,

Zach
