just for curiosity, if i was to use the hx52 as the large turbo on a compound set up,what turbo would be ideal for the small?

Hx30, he221, with wastegates around both turbos to tune properly.

You mean like the new Holset M2 setup on the Nissian Cummins 5.0?

Or you could try something like a billet misltsubishi td06h 20g. It was orionally a small diesel engine turbo over in japan. Flows about 42lbs/min and spools fast.
