rate of injection, injected quantity, timing and politics.

Below is our pump cam compared to the OEM 160hp cam

Below that is an older 3406 cam a c-15 a c-18 800hp cam and a c-18 1000hp cam.... Notice that they are slower, but they have a rocker ratio to amplify the injector motion where the P-7100 is direct acting meaning it runs 1:1. If memory serves me correct the 3406 has a 1.69:1 amplification which makes it a good bit faster than the p-7100

Below is a graph with the C-18 800hp injector lobe with the rocker ratio factored in. There are two pink lines. The top is after rocker ratio and the first is before rocker ratio. It is a good bit faster than the p-7100.

Below is an p-8600 with a hot grind. It is a good bit faster than the c-18 cam

I made an error in the length of injection on the OEM cam, those are actually the V-2.75 numbers. Although the V-2.75 was not visible, it was highlighted in the legend which meant I had it selected for readings.... I will have the previous graphs edited to reflect the true calculations. Below is the length of injection with the v-2.75 compared to the OEM Cam at different LPC and Rack settings. Just pick the cam you want to run, guestimate what amount of rack travel you will be using and voila, you know how to pick LPC based on the shortest number of degrees for your rack travel setting. this will yield the best performance ;)

2.5mmLPC
13mm, 17mm, 21mm
OEM 23.7, 30.3 36.9
V-2.75 21.76, 27.41,33.36

3.6mmLPC
OEM 21.1, 27.6,34.9
V-2.75 19.09,24.88,32.13

4.5mm LPC
OEM 20.05, 26.95,35.95
V-2.75 17.8,24.3,32.7

4.7mmLPC
OEM 19.89,26.99, 36.59
V-2.75 17.8,24.28, 32.78

I believe the 1000hp is faster even yet if memory serves correctly.

What about a mechanical 3406 pump cam? Need one to look at, as there is very little performance parts for them in the way of barrels and plungers a pump cam upgrade to increase performance/fueling would be welcomed.

It is a touch faster but the profile for the valves us exact for both the 800 and 1000hp cams. I would be happy to analyze the old pump cam. Might even be able to get you a hot grind.....

I might have another part number for a C18 cam you could analyze if you wanted to, it is 332-7315, this is used in the 1150hp marine engine.
