I have a neighbor that ripped the inner shifter boot on his G56 transmission. The part # is 5161544AA and local Dodge dealer said it is on national backorder. Do you have this part # or know when it will be available? Thanks.

The boot you're looking for is part of the transmission? The part number you have listed is part of the truck body.

Oops. Don't know why I thought he was Dodge too. LReiff, the boot is below the black shifter boot you see when you look in the truck. The local Dodge dealer had a hard time coming up with the part #, then told me it was on national backorder. I did not look at the truck myself, but it looks like it had a rubber-coated, steel ring that got pressed into the top of the transmission. It is, what I would call fluted and the inner hole fits tight against the shifter stub shaft. I think the purpose of the boot is to keep the oil in the tranny and dirt and water out.

U can use a cv boot off of a car to fix that. It's the dust cover off the very top of the transmission shifter?

What he said...the Dorman 614-002 universal cv joint boot fits the shift tower base perfectly once you cut it off at the right "step" . It's made from MUCH thicker silicone then the orange oem shift tower boot. Cut it down at the right "step", put a smear of rtv silicone caulking at the base and then a couple zip ties around it and you are good to go.

Amazon also conveniently sells it--
