Back when the 2.6 class was a 4500 limit how did they see that you were running only that? Did they have a box or just a recall tach?

Not very well, LOL

I don't recall 2.6 being 4500, I remember 2.8 trying to limit it.

Some orgs hit your recall, some tried requiring equipment on the sled to read out for the sled operator. Really done of them worked well, one of the reasons it is gone!
 
The burden of prooof was placed on the puller to either show the recall on the tach or provide a datalog.

There are tools that clamp on the injector lines that provide RPM, but they're kinda pricey.

It was rule that didn't work out very well in practice.
 
You can get the box for checking timing with a timing light and if the light is setup for it use the rpm function
