Melting_pistons 2.0 build thread

Thankfully the squatted look never really caught on here. Ive only ever seen a couple and they were suvs with a gangster wannabe type driving.

The trend has landed in Alabama, unfortunately.

We have the Cali lean here..... not as bad as carolina squat but still don't like the style lol

Finally got a chance to work on the reg cab a little today. I started pulling a bunch of stuff out of the engine bay. I got the battery boxes, wiper cowl/motor, hood, lights, tipm, reservoirs, and wiring harness pulled. Not a whole lot... but progress is progress.

Spent a little more time out in the shop today. Got the doors, fenders, remainder of ac components (engine bay side), heat shielding, wheels, and seats out. It’s a little time consuming, but it’s all coming apart.

Been a while... but got some time to piddle. I got the dash and carpet, and all associated wiring out. Took about two hours total, so not bad at all. As an added plus, I didn’t break any interior pieces or cut any wires... no matter how bad I wanted to.

Next time I get a chance (hopefully later this week) I need to get the head liner and the remainder of the interior out, and throw in the rear axle, then it will be ready to start cutting out all of the heavy unnecessary junk!

Well, finished up getting out the interior. Also was able to get out all of the old fuel lines, pulled out the taillight harness, threw the axle and rear tires back on and got the truck rolling again. I threw the doors back on top to keep the rain out, and moved the truck outside. Hopefully next weekend we will get this thing taken over to the chassis shop and chop it in half!

Got the truck loaded up and got it over to Dunright Fab. We got the truck in the shop, stripped the last few things like e brake, etc. then started cutting. We have the holes cut for the main hoop, and tacked in the outriggers. Tomorrow starts cage work. So excited to finally be INSTALLING parts instead of removing.

Looks awesome! what cert cage are you going with?

Thanks man. I think for now we are going to go with a 8.50 cage, with some 25.6 features... just incase I decide to do more in the future. But I don’t see me going too fast for this cage lol

Got the main hoop fabbed up today and tacked in. Also got the front hoop fabbed and tacked in on the outriggers. Only a few more bars to get in, then we will drop it down to fully weld everything.

And..... a little more progress. Just a few more bars to go and we will have everything mocked up, ready to get fully welded. I’m super excited with how it’s turning out. You can’t even see the cage from outside the doors of the truck, and from the windshield view all you see is the bars coming down following the a-pillar. It’s coming together!

Been a bit, we’ve been busy with the other truck and events. But the cage is 95% done and fully welded, other than a couple of extra support bars we are throwing in for the main hoop.

Also, I have purchased an engine now for the truck. It’s a 6.4 (sleeved down 6.7, with a bunch of other goodies). I took the head off and sent it out to kingspeed to get a little more work done to it. I’ll post more info on that as we progress.

I bought a turbo from a buddy who upgraded his compounds. It’s a FI 85/96 1.32, so I’m going to try to run that as a single when it’s all said and done.

Last but not least I actually won a set of 17x11 bogarts that I’m going to run on it for a bit, until funds allow for a 15” brake setup.

I think this catches us up with the current state of that truck. Pics below.

Bluetooth rear axle in the works. Should be very little parasitic loss. Lol

Glad to see someone putting a build on here. I haven't posted in a few years. After having many issues with health, parts and a year of pulls I wanted to go to cancelled. I am back at building a 3.0 puller and a street truck.

Been slow, but some progress is better than no progress.

The head from my motor is at kingspeed, and they should be working on it within the next week… so hopefully the head and all the billet accessories will be back to me in the near future to put the engine back together.

Also I started gathering parts for the Rack & Pinion swap. I got all of my parts off of the build list that Turba Tom has used on his truck. It utilizes a reman Detroit rack from a 2wd, hydraulic knuckles that you weld on the end what I’ll call the inner tie rod nut, and then some taper-to-straight adapters to go into the factory knuckles.

Also, I talked with Cody and I am using an idea similar to his for mounting. I turned down two pins to go into the mounting holes where the factory bushings are. Drilled and tapped a 12x1.75 hole in each, with them recessed from the front lip around .100”, and made some washers to go on the front side. I’ll get some tubing and turn down the back of the pins to go into them and weld to the frame… that way all I have to do is pull the 2 12mm bolts and the bolts from the inner heim joints and I can pop the rack off if I ever need to.
