05 5.9/6.7 swap please help!!!!

Ok guys.... I've read all I can find, and I'm still at a loss! I swapped an 08 6.7 in my 05 5.9 truck. Basically everything from the 5.9 was used, other than the head. Everything looks great, but can't get it to run! The injectors seem to fit good, and I just don't know where to look first for my problem! I know that the spray angle isn't correct, and I'm prepared to buy a set of 03-04 tips for it, but my mechanic is convinced that even though they won't work properly, that they'll still run it. Is that true?? It'll crank over, and will hit, but not start. And it actually seems like after turning over a little, it tries to lock up on one cyl. And what I mean by that, is that it seems like it's trying to hydro-lock, I guess you could say. Like the injector is stuck open. But, seems like it's only one that does it. I wouldn't think it's a sealing issue with the crossover tube, because the oil doesn't seem to have fuel in it. You can't hear compression blowing by, so I don't really think it's a seating/sealing issue either. At this point, I'm open to any and all suggestions though. I just really need my truck back!! One other thing though is.... When the rod came through my old 5.9, it took out the ECM. I bought one used off an 04.5, also a 325/610 truck though, and it's also an 848, so I can't see it being a compatibility issue. I sent it off, and it was confirmed to be good. It's just really blowing my mind! If the spray angle is enough difference to keep it from running, I'll order some tips today! I just hate to spend the money, if they should run it, and there's something else that's causing this, that I need to buy. Please help me on this! We do construction, and need this thing back badly!!!! Thank you so much in advance guys!!!!

I did this swap, I used my 05 electronics, my 5.9 head, 5.9 rail, 5.9 Injections with new 03-04 tips, and just drilled the steam ports into my head. There is to my knowledge no difference in the 2 heads except the steam ports. Does it even try to start?

Reading the first post in this thread, you probably have a pintle on one injector hanging open, which is both filling the cylinder, as well as leaking down rail pressure, to where it won't actually fire the injectors.

The evidence will be in the exhaust, by way of excess fuel.

Mark.

I missed this commentary, earlier!

Despite the CM number, an 04.5 ecm is NOT compatible to an '05.
They don't have the same APPS sensor, nor pinout.
I've never heard of a dealer, or anyone, being able to flash it to work, either.

It may still fire up and idle, but the APPS won't work.

Mark.

It's 05 bodies in the 6.7 head. I plan on getting 03/04 nozzles.

Have you tried hooking a scanner to it?
Any codes? monitor cam rpm, crank rpm, rail pressure. all pretty important.

I know the rail pressure showed to be like 27,000. Not sure if he was able to get any of the other info. And like I said.... No crank, just an intermittent hit here and there.

It'll crank over, and will hit, but not start.
sorry I misunderstood I thought it rolled over and sounded like it wants to fire (hit) but then tight like timing is advanced.
I would roll the motor over by hand to see if its hydrolocked in any way. if that passes I would jump out the starter with the key off.... This would tell me that the starter and wiring is good. if that passes I would hook up the scanner and record values as it sits.... look for anything that's not normal. like 27000 psi rail pressure while its not cranking.
if all that looks good, move to cam and crank rpm while rolling the motor over, then rail pressure.
First need to know its not something simple like bad ground or loose positive....then after its running and shuts off we will work on the vin..

Im confused, do you have 03-04 tips on the injectors now? or are they the 04.5-07 tips? Any smoke or evidence that the injectors are actually trying to fire?
