still think 1200 egts while towing is too high

runs 1200 at 65 mph with about 10 lbs of boost..

guessing the toyhauler loaded is about 12k

brick windwise....

63 68 14 with the hrvp been on there awhile but I still gotta drive by the egts..even the slightest speed up or grade puts the egts well into the 1300's.

ive got some injectors from Weston in there.
8x0.008" " . they made a big diff when I put em in.

I see these guys pulling these giant stock trailers and huge toyhaulers...12 ft tall 40 ft triple axles....big trailers with tractors on em.....no way this truck will do that...

no boost leaks..itlll make 45 psi empty with the comp on...those settings don't help much..nor does the smarty settings

just making conversation. I likely wont change much if anything...ongoing thing...in all likelihood its that hrvp on there...

I never had any trouble staying at 1200 or under with loads in excess of 25K. Seems high for your toy hauler to be driving temps like that. Have Weston plug every other hole in them injectors. That will help.

I've never had a drag comp...but that isn't adjustable, correct? Maybe you should find a Juice and swap it out so you can turn your fueling down. I'd run mine on level 2 (40 hp) and it was great. Or....maybe you should get a hold of Zach Hamilton and swap out your cam. I can't remember if you ever changed yours of if you are running stock. That was another huge diff in my old truck as well. Wish I would have done that the day I bought it.

I know it is a CR to a 24V VP, but with the same charger on my 06 I also had to drive by EGT's, it needed RPM to stay cool. I got rid of it and put twins on, no more EGT issues. I think it was the exhaust side on mine that caused the issue.

stock..no cam swap either...not getting into all that anymore..no time or interest. comp don't matter what setting..adding fuel or timing makes it worse

put it into overdrive..itll run 1000 all day...but at 2400 rpm..410 with 35's it really uses fuel.

At the time my 06 had DDP 90 and head studs with Smarty tuning. I think I was getting about 10 MPG when I had that set-up towing, because I had to run out the gears. I never got into OD unless I was running 70+.

Other than initial cost, any reason against compounds? I mean you are a tig welder, so you should be able to do the fab work.

Pre or post egt? Lol. I think the 24v run hotter. The drag comp has low fueling adjustments. I had issues as well with my 24v. I found running in 5th gear gave me the best eggs. Kept the rpm above 1800 and it helped keep it under control, it still would get up there.

My got better when I dropped back to the he351cw turbo. Will still get up there if pushed, think m9ne is mostly my dirty injectors though.

Maybe you should add that S475 turbo mark has listed for like $375 or something?

Do twins and you can pull the EGT gauge out of it. I tow my 48' Eliminator race trailer with 6500lb race truck inside on cruise control. Wont get over 1200* with the HE351/467 compounds and a hot tune that is probably 500hp or so.

I also run 37s and 3.73s, so it does about 1600rpm at 70mph, more RPM would help but its not a huge deal. I would use a HE351/475 set, only reason I used the 467 is because I had it laying around.

Since you can't adjust timing with the comp, and the HRVP has added timing already, I'd say just try it without the tuner. Or if anything do 1x1 on the comp. I always used a stock VP, but it would get smokey when I'd tow. I know you don't want to do a cam and I don't blame you, but when I added a 188/220 it changed everything.

Also 1200 isn't that bad while towing, but have you thought of water/meth inj?

Compounds if you're actually using it, singles are a waste of time on working vp truck in my opinion. 351/475 and forget about it.

Would it be necessary to swap to the smaller 1.10 exhaust housing on the 475? I have been hoping to do this with my truck, only I've considered as small as a 67-68mm for faster response with the manual transmission.

I dont think its necessary but they're the same price if you buy them new. Mines a super b over a 75/1.10 and it doesn't run much higher than 1:1 drive pressure. 7x14's and a tst comp when I towed my 28' fifth wheel to north Dakota and back, egt's are a non issue at reasonable settings, its hard to get it over 1000-1100 unless you turn the box way up.

trying to keep things simple so not wantng compounds...yes I could do all the fab work in ss tubing but I really don't have time or inclination..truck is on the road almost every weekend either pulling the camper or cows or feed or some kinda work...downtime sucks..esp if I gotta work on it...

as I said..out of overdrive its turning 2300-2400 but its only at a 1000 egts and its sleepy time on the guage..

the comp does nothing but make it hotter...the smarty didn't really notice any diff..maybe a little at initial but settled in cruising its about the same...

what im getting at is I see these guys pulling these giant 5th wheel trlrs...toyhaulers..trucks loaded ..waaayy over weight I know...pulling 6 cars on a trlr...with a stock truck....these guys don't even know what an egt is...yet theyre doing ohio to fl trips 4 times a yr and drive it without a clue....HOW IS THAT BEING DONE?

Because they are stock trucks that dont have an EGT gauge, they just dont care what they are.

You have bigger injectors, larger pump, and tuning. Compounds are the answer to your question. V-band everything if you want to be certain of no problems. I built mine on a mockup engine, I have also seen them built with just a manifold bolted to the side of a table. Sounds like you do a lot of pulling, compounds will change your life.

Imagine zero EGT issues, less to no smoke, quieter exhaust, and being able to tow with your cruise control.

Might sound dumb, but have you tried different settings on the smarty? Does it have the options, revo software I think is what it's called. I know playing with that did help my truck a bit. I went from 8 or 9 down to the lowest full power tune, and went with the shortest duration. I think the duration setting made the most difference, less smoke too. There's also a half power setting you could try for giggles.

That's why I didn't like the Smarty. 20-30 minutes between changes for each flash.
