Can anyone ID this engine? I'm pretty sure its either an NTC250 or an NTC300, I can't tell for sure.

I was thinking it would have been a v12 or a 1693 in a long hood. There was a 1676 V8 cat too but Ive only ever seen one.

If this isn't the original engine I'd almost bet it had a V12 Detroit, K's weren't super common and neither were 3408's

I saw a press release from 73 when the 450 first came out, said that they were expected to be on the market mid 74.
Picture from when I first looked at it, best shot of the bunk I have.

I tend to disagree with this. I agree that they aren't "common" but they aren't super rare either. I know of two Ks that have been sitting for years and I've seen many, many running Ks in trucks going up and down the road. That could also be a function of the setting I see all of these old trucks. The V8 Cats are kind of rare but I've seen a fair share of them too.
Don't get me wrong I like the extended hood As and the only way to get a big motor is get an extended hood, probably search forever to find a standard hood with a big motor. But quite honestly I don't understand the infatuation with the extended hoods. What I really want is a standard hood with a K. Now that is rare. It would definitely be a sleeper truck. I'd be easy to convince all the know it alls what it isn't.

I think his truck is a little new for a 1676, from what I found they were released in the mid 60's and most were replaced with inlines when the cranks failed. I believe they were only around 700cid.

After seeing the pictures of the inside of some standard hoods with the recessed firewall I can say I wouldn't want to spend any time in one, the throttle in one was probably 4-6" behind the brake pedal, I can only imagine how uncomfortable that would have been.

I can tell you where a KT powered 359 standard hood is sitting right now, its a 280" wheelbase with aluminum rails and still has the original sleeper. Its sitting inside a barn that my wife's family owns, but you've got a better chance at winning the lottery four times in a row than getting that truck pried away from the owner, which is a damn shame because he'll never do anything with it.

Not for my short stubby legs that would be perfect! With just a little air in my seat I drive my A with my toes!

The fuel pedal was at a weird angle too.

As do I. We get a lot of compliments on this one but his catches a lot of eyes. Obviously, people with more of an old school taste seem to like mine. His is big and bright and catches all eyes, which is cool but it also catches people's eyes that I don't wish to see.

Which for the record, I've never had any issues in that truck. Only once at a scale house where I was unknowingly over on the trailer.

98% of any truck with class has them. I don't wanna be like every other truck on the highway. Not that mine are anything one off but it's a lot cheaper and "less" common.

This brings me to a question...since this is a trucker thread. My neighbor across the fence works the chicken coupe on I-35 for the OK Corp Comm. He stopped a truck Saturday (large fleet who I won't name) for being slightly over-weight. The SOB scaled at 89,xxx gross. He had papers that said he was loaded with #37,xxx recycled paper. He was told to stay in his truck and that he couldn't watch them load. Is this normal? I guess I couldn't be a trucker if I didn't know exactly what was being put in the van and watching it being loaded. That just seems crazy. By the papers, he should have been at #75K or so. He got alllll kinds of tickets.
