How many hours to replace oil pickup tube?

Curious how many hours the book says for replacing the pickup tube(I assume remove engine to access pan) on a 1995 F350 7.3 PS 2wd auto. Probably more than the truck is worth, but it needs to be done.
Thanks.

16 hours with AC to R&R engine. Add 2.4 for oil pick-up. All-data time.

Motor out, pan and pick up tube off. Tested the tube for cracks with air and soapy water, no leaks. Gasket looks good. Maybe it needs more air and bigger injectors.

Did you buy that curry burner? Would be a good time to put it to use.

No way would I do another truck project. Maybe a mini-truck, but no diesels.

Shot in the dark but there is a bypass built into the oil filter housing. I had one stick once and wouldn't build oil pressure on the low side. Replaced and all was good....

Stuck open or closed? I had the piece fall out once, but I pushed it back in and peened over the edges. They took off the oil cooler and I checked the valve, it still pushes up with finger pressure. Pick up tube was checked for leaks, new gasket, Melling high volume pump, and new cam sensor. Starts right up if you fill the tank with oil, but isn't building oil pressure. Took a fitting off near the oil filter and blew air into the hole. Air comes out the oil tank for the HP pump, but doesn't bubble out into the oil pan.

Good morning, Mine was stuck open. This was a flood truck with a no start condition. The owner replaced all the wiring and computer and couldn't get it going. He gave up so i ended up with the truck. The valve was ****ted up and hung open in the bore. Not sure what kind of pressure is supposed to be on the spring to hold it shut but i would imagine it wouldn't bypass until 60-70 lbs or so. Did you do all the work listed ? Did the truck just not start one day or was it running and quit?
When you can get the truck to run by priming the HPOP does it build any pressure at idle verified by a mechanical gauge, or do you shut it off right away? Im sure you have alot of time into this already if you decided to pull the motor.... Find anything in the pan?? All my questions for now lol , let me know...

Surface is smooth, no galling.

The other thing I saw was a poor low grade (NAPA) oil filter that would not let oil into the HPOP. Try a Ford filter ?

I guess it's coming out again. Double check the pick up tube, look for any other problems, and put it back together. If it still doesn't work I'll sell it for parts. Too bad, I like the truck, but I'm not going to put any more money into it.

If you feel its the pickup tube why dont you throw 6 extra quarts of oil in it to get it completely submerged in oil? probably be a little easier then pulling the motor again.. If it still wont prime then jack up the rear and flood the pump, If that wont build pressure that check valve is stuck...

Didn't those Fords have some kind of impact sensor under the dash ?? Like a shut down of sorts if the truck was hit. I may be in left field on this, but I'm certain that we ran into that once in the shop.
