Have a friend that has a 97 4wd New Holland tractor, 8.3 Cummins mechanical. Its set at 260hp now, he wants a little more. Do you think egts would still be fine sliding the plate all the way forward?
 
I wouldn't slide it all the way if it were me. I did that with a b-series in a new holland dozer and it tried to get hot. If it's got a straight pipe I'd be more likely to slide it all the way. Maybe someone else could give you a better answer.
 
Im assuming it has the 7100? If it does, and all you want is smoke some power try preboost first. Did the same on a case and helped with the low end which was where it was lacking. But you can get an egt gauge if you want to go further.
 
Yes, it is a P7100 pump. He wants more power out of it, not smoke. He's probably not gonna want to put an egt gauge in. I will probably slide the plate about 3/4 of the way forward and let him try it out.
