4gsk/5gsk
So a while back I picked up a 4gsk kit with Valve springs made by Peak (Bosch Springs). After changing directions with my build , and deciding to build more aggressive, I picked up some Hamilton 165 valve spring kit.
Today I through the Brand New 4gsk and Valve spring kit up in Craigslist to sell. Thought I'd pick up a 5kgsk. Alot if the posts I read on the 5ks are back and forth, good/bad. Some guys blame certain brands, others dislike the 5k springs in general. I hear if idle and cold start problems...
Is it worth switching over to a 5k? Or should I keep the 4ks? What's the recommended brand for 5ks?

Haisley 5k springs seem to have quite a following, I personally inquired about Columbus diesel 5k springs and was told it almost always takes a pump shop to get them to idle decent. I decided my bosch 4k springs were good for my street truck. Few people have the air flow mods needed to really run 5k springs.

Go with Hailey 5ks, set up right it will crank with the bump of the key and have a stock like idle. Even my old work truck with a small turbo that wouldn't see 5k if I tried they were still the best. You can run 6k springs and unless you run over 30degrees timing it's not going to rev that high unless in neutral. I also ran the Haisley 5ks with stock valve springs on a mild timing and turbo setup with no issues, ran awesome.

Haisley 5k Gov Spring Kit. Just leave them loose (as in only ~2 clicks per side) and they'll run great. After you adjust idle, you should have awesome throttle response, and you won't need any throttle to start it, even in winter.

I am surprised that Farrell's 5k springs aren't brought up more . I have run Columbus,Hasiley and Garmons 5k's and all had some compromise for Street use and running in general . Columbus installed there's Garmon installed his and another pump shop did the Hasiley install. Even with a ton of adjustment they were never something I liked for the street in an auto. I Installed the Farrell diesel 5k springs while the pump was on the truck and set them where he recommends and it was perfect. I would give him a call.

What? I love it when my truck drives itself! Haha
I have Haisley 5k springs and the pump was setup at Certified Diesel Injection in Salt Lake City and it is the best set of springs I've run. Even with slightly lower compression, 28* timing and a single battery it starts with just the bump of the key. Even in winter time it takes a few extra cranks but the fuel delivery at cranking speed is perfect and it fires over easily. However, touch the throttle and it drowns the motor.

I have set of cds 5ks that Seth setup when he rebuilt my 215. Zero complaints, idle nice and the throttle is not so touchy it cannot be driven.

I ran CDS 5K's in a pump I had maxed by them as well...absolutely the BEST driving pump I have ever had. Ran better than my tow rig with 3K's, and MAN would it run.
I think the complete setup makes a difference, so a pump that isn't 100% could be very touchy, but one that has been tuned to be right is just fine.
IMHO,
Chris

Took my pump and CDS 5k springs to Antrim a few years back. They called me up and said they were throwing the CDS springs in the trash, spent almost a day trying to get the pump to just idle correctly on the stand. They put Haisley springs in and ive been running that a few years now with no issue. 180 pump and it flows 500ccs. I see 6,000 RPM when i let the clutch out so I am a true believer in the Haisley springs. Maybe CDS's quality is better now, idk? But you get what you pay for, CDS springs were the cheaper route.

I sold that pump about 7 years ago now, so I don't know.

I should edit my above post, I got what I paid for at the time, getting the CDS springs since they were cheaper. Antrim told me to steer clear of their springs so that's what i did. My hope would be it was a just a bad set of springs, its the only CDS product i have ever bought so i don't feel like I can base my opinion on a company off a product that cost $200. Would be willing to give them the chance again, probably not since the Haisley's have work flawlessly.

Sounds to me like the most successful 5ks are In pumps that the pump shops installed...which is fine, I planned on having my pump done at some point, but now may be sooner rather than later...
Does anyone know a ball park idea of what Is cost to max out and install the 5k's by Seth, or any other shops?

I paid $250 to have mine benched and flowed at Antrim. And another $500 for the 5k springs and install.

Seth will no longer only max/bench a pump.

It used to be $250 and the cost of his springs or you can supply your own. Now he won't max/balance a pump unless it's rebuilt as well to ensure quality products/results leaving his shop. I believe that service is around $1200 or so

Seth charges $800 to rebuild plus the cost of any hard parts. That price includes the gaskets, seals, and calibration of your choice including maxing.
