Flexplate install

Getting ready to do a flex plate on my wife's 06. Last time I did one the flex plate locating tabs kept the new plate from sitting against the crank. I ended up putting on a used flexplate. Are the tabs meant to bend into final position as you tighten the bolts or did i have a bad plate?

Howdy! Were the tabs really bent? My friend acquired this 2006 with neat interior and new tires from 4Wheelonline installed last month. He found a flex plate from the local parts yard and he's not sure if it is a good plate.
