2001 gcwr
What have you guys registered your 2nd gens at for a combination weight and how high can you go? Purchased a 15klb trailer and not sure if I'm going to be able to make my truck legal for it...
Thanks

If I found the right specs your trucks gcwr is 20k, truck weighs about 6500, trailer is probably about 4500, so you are legal with 9k on the deck I'm thinking. Whenever you register the trailer and have to get it scaled you will figure out the exact numbers.

So the trailer I got is 15k gvw. Truck is 8800. Trailer empty is 4600. Truck is around 6500 (as stated). Here's my problem. To be "legal" your gcwr has to match the gvw of the truck plus the gvw of the trailer. I didn't know if anyone has figured out a way to pull that off.

Found a website that had all the specs for the truck in your sig. Gcwr was 20k. As I understand pa laws your trailer is 15k gvwr, and with the 4600 empty you can only legally haul 10400, but your trucks gcwr limits you to 8900. Legally. What I don't know is if they the gvwr of both to determine if you need a cdl, however at 8800 and 15k you would be at 23800 gvwr. Which is under your gcwr, so I would feel like the total gvwr is irrelevant since you technically can't exceed that.
Unless I'm totally mistaken.

The magic number for a CDL is always 26k. Now, in PA, when you go above 17k you need a physical card but in OH it's anything over 10k. Also in PA, if your trailer goes over 10k gross then you need a combination plate on the truck ($400). Hope that helps. I think the 26k is a federal standard for requiring a CDL. They also like to get you for being heavier than the capacity of your tires (truck and trailer).

I have my class A's and keep up with my medical card, so that's not an issue... I just dont know what i'm legal for with my truck or what i can go with my truck. A buddy of mine has a 05 3500 Duramax and he was able to go to 28,500. I would surely think that I would be able to get mine up to at least 23.

Years ago they would let you register for a GCWR of 26k without a problem. That was an 07 2500. A notary that does registrations should be able to help you.

I had to take my 2k 3500 to an inspection mechanic and have him fill out paperwork from notary stating the gcwr for the combo.
