03 still missing

I pulled the head. I have studs, valve springs, and push rods for the truck so I figured what the hell, I'll find out one way or the other what the problem is.

Found the miss. Appears to have dropped a valve seat on #5. lol it's always something thanks for the help. I don't know how to post pictures but it's pretty funny.

So how was the lash good if it has a dropped seat?:poke:

Glad you found it though, its always a relief when you find out what the problem actually is. Now just find yourself an 06+ head to rebuild, they have better seats.

Just be happy that it didn't do more damage. When I dropped one, it wiped everything out. It was ugly.

Oh it's getting a full rebuild, heads junk, piston has eaten the cylinder walls and even #1 has an exhaust valve impression. But stuff happens, fix it and move on no sense in dwelling on it.

Now time to build it, 12 valve rods, later model head, bored .20, balanced rotating assembly, 188/220 cam, springs and pushrods, arp everything. Should be a good combo.

Well it's gotta come out so why not put some better pieces in. Plus I like rpm. I'm afraid my little gated 63 and 60horse injectors aren't gonna be up to par for the rest of the build. But will see.

i have a similar issue, stock 04.5, ran really rough so i replaced the injectors and crossover tubes. went to fire it up and have the same issue. like its running on 4 cylinders. no excessive blowby, no cel... i had the engine running and pulled the injector plug for 1 and 2 and it made no difference. is it possible that the injector harness for those cylinders is bad?

Yes, the 3 plug connectors are known to have issues.

Injector connectors exposed to oil are prone to wick, and then the oil in the plug causes a resistive connection.
The ECM will not always fault because circuit diag still has a return path, but then can't flow enough current to actuate the armature.

This is why newer designs use wire impregnated seals for the injector harness.

alright, were somewhat at a loss. its still missing when its cold. so far we have changed the injectors, lift pump, cp3, injector harness, flushed the fuel, compression test on all cylinders, double checked lash... not sure what to do at this point. im starting to lean towards the ecm being bad?

Got it rebuilt and running great.
