Melting_pistons build thread

On the front end, I went down 1.5 coils, and got everything repainted on the bumper assembly. It’s a good thing I made the bumper quick release... at this ride height I can’t get it on the trailer! Lol

I took the truck up to PA to spend a long weekend with Brian Durf (@battleship_6.7) and Daniel Nelson redoing all of the wiring in the engine bay. Here are some pics of the progress.

I think I recall your truck on Battleship_6.7 instagram! I was also happy to see you lowered the truck as well. Looks awesome.

While there, I decided to reroute the AC lines into the fender well so that they are almost completely hidden. That helped out a ton.

Yessir.... I was up there about 3 weeks ago. And thanks man, I’m really happy with it to this point

We have everything pretty well hidden. We relocated the TIPM and made some brackets to hold it as well as the ABS module. We also made some carbon fiber plates to dress them up a little.

We relocated the single battery to the frame rail behind the axle to get it completely out of the engine bay. Turned out clean!

Here is the (semi) finished product! I’m stoked with how it turned out. While we were at the carbon work, we also made some carbon fiber mirror delete plates, as well as an under hood dress up piece. I’m so happy with where this build is going!! I can’t thank those guys enough for all of their help. This was a long weekend, with about 170 man hours tied up in 3 days...but it was well worth it for sure!!!

While everything was apart for the winter, I sent the intake back to Jake to get him to weld on one of his new logos...I think it turned out WAY better than the sticker!!!

Had a pretty good scratch on the back beside where the rear bumper meets the fender. I got tired of looking at it, and I’m not quite ready to paint the truck just yet, so......

Decided to go with a set of Viking dual adjustable shocks on the rear. My buddy Trey at DunRight Fab helped me out with getting these things welded up.
I painted the axle gloss black, the frame flat black, and got the shock mounts powdered purple. Gotta trim the u bolts and finish up the harness.... but you get the idea.

Here are a couple of pics of the truck at its current ride height with the front bumper on. I’m really digging the way it’s coming together. This thing is LOW (or at least compared to a stock truck it is) lol

And here we are to current day. Got a fiberglass roll pan that I’m working on getting mounted now. When you bolt up the top, it kicks the bottom out, so I’m going to have to come up with some type of support to hold the bottom in place...

I took it for a test drive for the first time since all of the winter upgrades were done. I definitely need to do some shock tuning, but it rides surprisingly good to be that low. It measures out to 7” lower in the rear and 5.5” lower in the front than my 06.

I’m also getting a really bad fuel surge... I’m not sure if it’s cp3, lift pump, or tuning related. That’s the next thing to investigate I reckon.

Anymore info on how you painted the axles/frame? Came out clean!

Thanks man and sure...it’s gonna sound kinda basic but it works...

I cleaned it really good with degreaser and a bunch of brakekleen. Then used duplicolor engine enamel. 3 coats of primer and 4 coats of base. Didn’t clear the axles like I did the engine. But just followed the instructions for wait times between coats/stages. Turned out good. I’m about to do the same to the front axle/steering components as well
