New "old" truck

Hello,

I'd been running around in an old POS free truck that I'd made run and overloaded all to hell several dozen times. In doing so I'd saved up enough to buy something that I wouldn't be looked at like I was using meth.

I found a local deal on an "old" 125k mile 24V Cummins and figured I better replace my old heap. Its a 4wd w/an automatic unfortunately.

I picked up a canopy and some running boards and driving home the truck stumbled, I did some research and found out I'd probably bought a truck with a bad injection pump. The truck came with a 4" stainless banks exhaust, so I picked up a set of RV275's and installed a new injection pump and a Raptor lift pump setup all at the same time. I installed an Edge Juice with attitude and Cts setup and I'm relatively happy with the power and towing capability as well as mileage.

This is my tow rig so I don't plan on building anything absurd for power, just want to make enough to get decent mileage and tow my race car/toys with good power. I plan on owning this truck for the next 30 years or so and it will see 3-5k miles/year at the max.

Next plan is to buy a good condition HX35 to replace the stock HY. The truck has 4.10 gears so it is pushing too much boost at freeway speeds for good mileage (ideally it likes 50 MPH for mileage). I was thinking the HX would push the boost back a bit and allow me to get a few more miles per gallon and a couple more MPH before the boost starts up. I don't like the idea of bigger tires as it is already pretty high off the ground.

I know the transmission will explode at some point, but I am pretty easy on the truck so I'm hoping to get away with the extra power for a while before I have to spend that direction too.

Keeping in mind my primary use is towing and general hauling, any input on whether the HX35 or maybe an HX35/40 hybrid would be a better setup to gain some rpm/mph without sacrificing towing ability? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom
