Filter Swap. Where did I go wrong?

Replacing the AirDog filter on my AirDog 150 with a Cat 1R0751. After easily spinning the filter on by hand, I saw that I was going to have to repostion the bracket to get it to fit. When I went to remove it, it wouldn't budge. I eventually spun the pickup tube out of the pump base. After trying a few things, I still can't get the pickup tube out of the Cat filter. I also tore the threads up so there will be no shot at reusing it even if I do get it out. Where did I go wrong with this install? Truck is a 2009 6.4L Power Stroke. Can I just buy the pickup tube?

It seems that the CAT filters are prone to gauling up the filter base threads.

I've had it happen 2 times on the 1R 0750's with Fleetgaurd bases. I think its because both the CAT filters and the bases are aluminum and they dont play nice together.

I over to changed to Donaldson filters which have steel internals and havent had any problems since.
